here's a quick report from the lower fraser today. i wanted to try my luck fishing for sturgeon for a change. got to my spot 3 hrs before high tide, current a little fast, water murky. the set up today was 10'6 baitcast set up, 50lbs braided mainline, 30lbs braided leader and a 6oz pyramid weight. within the 2.5hrs i fished, 8 bites between 2 guys. i lost 3. the first 2 broke the leader like it was nothing. and the last fish, i used 50lbs braided leader but still lost it, it was a good fight. we just used worms today. here a video clip of the last fish that i lost.

Pretty helpless feeling isn't it when the fish is running off at will and there's nothing you can do about it ?Nice report.

wow. that is nice. this is the first time i ever tried fishing for sturgeon this year so call me a rookie. i been trying spots in the south and north arm. and I've been skunked so far. not even a bite. i guess i am fishing for them in the wrong area. i know you can't tell me exactly where your fishing spot is but i sure would appreciate the vicinity. i want to keep fishing for these fishes but getting a little frustrated. any help would be nice :'(

Too bad looked like it was a big fish :)Question is why are you using such light gear?rg500 just find any shore shoreline with a backeddy and fish the top side of it.Try the Surrey dock if your close to it,its snaggy but you can catch them there.

The stretch between Gilbert Road and No. 5 Road of Richmond in South Arm can be pretty productive. Not so good in North Arm unless you fish from the Vancouver/Burnaby side. Keep the bait big, too many small coarse fish around. Check out this report from Lucky a year agoo:

rantalot, to answer your light gear question, thats the heaviest i have :'( , i don't fish for sturgeon that much.
went out again yesterday evening, nothing but a few bullhead bites. While we were fishing, this small 16ft old fibreglass boat starts heading towards us on shore, they beached their boat beside us, we were like, what the?? >:( next thing you know, 2 guys stand up and they were DFO!! ;D we didn't expect that. they checked for licenses and gear, they made us pull up our gear to make sure we were using barbless. it was nice to see them out like that. and they were friendly which is a good thing. they were pulling up to everyone they saw fishing.

Good to see DFO out!Need to spend a few dollars if your going to fish for them,it sucks that they break you off but it's even worse that they are swimming around with a hook and possibly a weight stuck to them.I was out Saturday and once agian as soon as the bait hit the bottom I had a fish on:)Landed 4 in 2 hours.
