I would like to welcome all to Fish for the Future 2007 (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/fftf) from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday July 7th. The festival will once again take place at the No. 2 Road Pier (London's Landing) in Steveston (see map (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/fftf/image/map.gif))This will be the fifth annual event and there are some exciting new additions that all can look forward to.
With the support of the BC Family Fishing Weekend and National Fishing Week, this is a community event hosted in Steveston. A variety of activities usually take place during the event. The event is free, kids who do not have a fishing rod can borrow one during the event. The whole purpose of the event is to promote family fishing, as well as bringing awareness of various environment issues to the general public. Last year's event was well attended, we estimated over 500 people.
Please note that parking is limited so it is best to car-pool or cycle to the event. Juvenile tidal fishing licenses will be available to those who are under the age of 16 and they are free. For adult tidal license, please visit Berry's Bait and Tackle (http://www.berrysbait.com). Limited amount of bait will also be supplied. Food is not available on site. The closest place is a cafe on No. 2 Road just north of the pier. Drinks (pop and water) will be available on site.

Once you get into Richmond, head West until No. 2 Road, then turn onto No. 2 Road and head south to the end. At the T junction, make a left turn. Immediately you'll reach a three-way stop, then make a right. Continue for about 50 more meters. and you'll see the pier at the bend of the road.
Volunteers, we'll be parking at the business lot across the street from the pier again. The owner is once again generously lending us the lot for the day without charging. Please park tightly, we expect more traffic this year. ;D Carpool with other volunteers if possible. :) I'll be emailing you all again next week to finalize things.
Thanks!

;D :o :D A sound you never forget eh!! ;D

wont be able to attend this year. :(
-
Too bad Dan, maybe next year you'll be back to untangle fishing lines. ;D
Just to be a bit more specific on the river fishing clinic for those who are interested. You'll be able to learn how to set up your barfishing, spincasting and float fishing rigs during the clinics. Chris will be there to explain his barfishing setup while Randog and Big Steel will demonstrate float, lure and sturgeon fishing. This is an opportunity for entry-level anglers to prepare for the upcoming sturgeon, salmon and steelhead season.

Back to the top, we are one week away from the event now! :)

The high tide on next Saturday will be around noon, meaning the fishing period will be quite good since the time between two hours before and after flood tide is usually prime time for fishing in the Tidal Fraser River.
The kids should be able to catch the following species.
- Peamouth chub
- northern pikeminnow
- pacific staghorn sculpin
- redside shiner
- Shiner perch
- largescaled sucker
- bull trout
- white sturgeon
- starry flounder
The fish will be temporarily placed in an aquarium, so everyone will have a chance to learn ways to identify these fish.

Looking forward to it, I hope Fish Assassin brings me some ghost shrimp although I pumped some today after taking Global TV a story I shot yesterday.
Can I fish too? ;D ;D ;D
Also am I allowed to wear my Maple Leaf Hat? ;D
-
Well I was going to take the family to the lake to fish but will now come to Richmond. My son is looking forward to it. Rod what type of bait should I bring for him.
And if Chris is allowed to wear a laughs hat then I will wear a Canuck hat.
Hopefully I can find it from Maple Ridge.

You can wear the Maple Leaf hat, but not so sure about the fishing part after your performance during the pikeminnow derby. ;D

That sounds good fly guy, looking forward to see you and the family. There will be 10 dozens dew worms available for the kids to use, as well as some shrimp. Those are two typical bait used down there, and dough as well if people want to catch some peamouth chub.
If you're coming from Maple Ridge, come through New Westminster, cross the Queensborough, get on the connector. Once you are off that, you're on Alderbridge Road. Turn left at No. 4 Road instead of going straight until No. 2 Road, this way you can avoid the insane downtown traffic. Continue down to Steveston Hwy, turn right at Steveston Hwy, then turn left at No. 2 Road. Continue to the end where the pier is.

Great thanks Rodney. Looking forward to the day.

Yeah, we've just been hammering the sturgeon in years past ;)
What about that one herring?
-
White sturgeon have actually been biting well down there during the incoming tide lately. :o Perhaps one of our seasoned sturgeon anglers like Randog or Big Steel will huck a big bundle of worms out there and hook one for us on Saturday. ;)
The herring is actually an american shad, we've been getting the odd ones every summer.
-
I have much better bait than that!!! ;D Lamprey's, Eullies and roes sacks... I can also huck it out there lord knows how far!! So who knows. Should I bring that stuff as well? ;D
-

NO

No child is ever too young to fish! :)
If he's over a year old and can walk, I would bring him down. Last year was the first year we went, and I seen lots of little people running around, but then again we're quite a "tall" family so maybe everyone just looks smaller...lol :D
Weather looks promising, looking forward to Saturday!
-
I guess that I am one of those little people when standing next to the Buck giants. :o Everytime I see your kids, they are few inches taller than me. :-\
No one is too young for this event for sure. The arts and crafts activities, birds of prey, or just staring at the fish in the aquariums are enough to keep the really young ones entertained. :)
This Saturday is shaping up to be a very good one. I am now worried about crowding. :o Please carpool or ride a bike down people! Parking is also available in front of London's Farm, at the boat launch just down the road as well as further back around the bike park and various places along No. 2 Road.

When it rains it pours! :o

Thanks to Berry's Bait and Tackle (http://www.berrysbait.com), I now have 120 dew worms sitting in my fridge for Saturday. :D
-
Hey Rod are dogs welcome by the pier?
-
Dogs are welcome if they don't run around or bark too much, because of the amount of kids we are expecting and we also need to keep noise to the minimum for the birds of prey.
-
Two DFO officers are scheduled to be at the event tomorrow from 11am to 1pm, one RCMP officer (a forum member in fact ;) ) is scheduled to attend from 1pm to 3pm. They will be happy to answer your questions regarding enforcement in the Tidal Fraser River section.

Don't worry he will be leashed, he rarely barks if at all( boxers are not known for barking) and he is trained.
-
Well my son got his first fishing license and man was he excited. I was shopping and he was telling them how to spell his name and birthday. It was pretty cute
-
Now we just have to make sure Dragonspeed get him into a sculpin. If all fails, DS can always floss one like he usually does. ;D
See you in the morning. :) This is going to turn into a forum party with so many of you showing up.
-
He even had to buy his own worms. We will see everyone in the morning.
-
Can someone bring some pencil lead and small hooks (size 8 and smaller) please? I just sorted through last year's tackle, no small hooks. :-X We also have an outgoing tide tomorrow afternoon so we may need heavier weight to keep the bait down.

Jig 'em in the tail... ;)
-
Sorry guys I am sick and stuck in bed :(I tried getting up and moving around but my stomach said no way :-XHope everything works out today and i will be there next year.
-
Too bad Rantalot, I guess it didn't get any better overnight. :-\ Next year. ;) Get well soon for Salt Spring. ;D
-
No and it sucks! I am supposed to be going Skaha on Monday for some smallie fishing as well but looks like that will be a no go as well :( Looks like I missed you in Salt Spring by two days.
-
Thanks for a great morning Rod. My son had a great time and was thrilled when he got the first fish for the tank. After that he decided to stop so that he could check out the tank and the other displays.
-
Glad you guys enjoyed it! ;)
