In an effort to promote outdoor writing and encourage young anglers to explore their creativity, we'll once again be running a writing contest this year. Unlike our previous contest, this is a photo essay contest with some specific requirements.
There are two age categories
Requirements
- Your essay must be between 250 and 750 words.
- The resolution of your photo (only one photo) that accompanies the essay must be at least 500px X 500px large.
- You can only submit one entry.
- Photoshopped photo will not be accepted.
- The essay should be a story that is relevant to the photo.
Prizes
Prizes will be available from Berry's Bait and Tackle (http://www.berrysbait.com) (fly boxes with two dozen flies, lure bags), Grizzly Creek Lure and Tackle (http://www.kodiaktackle.com/) (swivels, rod wraps). Other prizes maybe available when new sponsors jump in. :)
Deadline and determination of winners
The deadline of this contest is November 30th, 2007. This gives you enough time to experience different fisheries and choose which one you wish to write about. You are judged on both the photo and essay. Spelling and grammar should be focused on your essay as well as creativity. We are looking for artistic components in your photo (eg. a photo of a dead fish on a table will not do so well).
Method of submission
Please have your essay typed in a MS Word document, and send it with your image file as two attachments by email to info@fishingwithrod.com.
Reccomendations
A typical fishing story with a photo of your catches is acceptable, but it doesn't necessarily guarantee a winner if others are more creative. Choose a photo that brings back fond memory of your outing. It does not have to be a photo of a fish, instead it can be a scenery photo, a close-up photo of a significant item of your trip, etc. Develop a story from the photo that is easy to explain, yet unique to capture readers' attention.
Good luck, I look forward to see the entries!

Ok, so it seems like there are great interests on both 8-10 and 17-19 categories. Let me go over the whole plan again this weekend and will make a decision on Monday. :)
