Tried our fishing skills in Tofino at Portland Point in Tofino. Sat May 12th, tides good and we hit a few
screaming fish on our fishing line. At 145 ft we hit one halibut that took 75 feet of line. Hit the bait
hard like a freight train, and the Rod and the Islander MR3 reel handled the halibut well. To the boat, gaffed,
fillet and done like dinner on that one.
Had a total of 2 halibut (one over 20lb and the other 13lb) One spring 13 lbs. Presently on the
leaderboard, 62 lb halibut is the biggest with a 26lb spring at Weigh West Rest. Talk to Graeme at Weigh West
Resort if you need to get out there. Some fantastic fishing spots in that area. DJ has an awesome boat at Weigh West.
Sunday winds kicked up and fishing was dead offshore. Came back in for some cod, but even the cod were picky.
Got the limit, smaller than usual but we all had fun on a Mother's Day weekend.
