Dry at this time is a bit of a challenge, but still works try Caddis, Griffith Gnat, Black Gnat, Renigade, or Tom Thumb in the warmth of the afternoon.

I also have a question regarding dry flys in rivers

Is having a dry fly as an indicator and a nymph down under at the same time as good as using just one dry fly setup? Does it affect the appearance on the water surface??

thanks

Derp,
Please consult the freshwater fishing regulations for BC, "It is unlawful to, angle with a fishing line to which more than one artificial fly is attached (i.e. use dropper flies")."

I'm sure it does not affect larger dry flies, but just don't try this rig in BC  ::)

The Thompson R., below Kamloops lake, doesn't open until June 1. The dry fly is most effective after the water start to come down, usually around the second week of July.

Actually there is a special May opening on the Thompson.  Don't have my regs handy but I think it is from Kamloops lake down to Spences Bridge?

Shane,
The regs are as follows for the Thompson River, "Special additional opening from the CNR bridge below Deadman River to CNR bridge above Bonaparte R, May 1-31: trout/char release; artificial fly only".  ;)

Please note that there has been an in-season change in the Thompson River regulations. May is now CLOSED to fishing.

Yeah they have closed the Thompson River entirely for the month of May which is a downer.. But Michaelt if you want to try dry fly-fsihing i would suggest going to the Similkameen RIver by princeton in the summer and use a tom thumb, its how i got good at fly-fishing because the river is always full of trout and anywhere with some depth is great!
