Title: Best way to get ahold of a pink rod?
Post by: SnaggedADuck on April 09, 2007, 06:08:12 PM
Hey Guys,

Long story short I have convinced my girlfriend into fishing this upcoming season for salmon and she wants to know if she can have a pink drift rod.  Can you all throw some ideas at me so i can get a feel if this is feasible please?  Preferable 10'6 and level wind is what i was thinking.

Hey There,

I had a rod made up for my Wife (Venessa) last year. It is a Rainshadow blank (grey finish). I had plum guide wraps with a hot pink and silver band at the end. The guy who made it up was Mike Doutaz - he did a fantastic job.

Here is a pic:

And here it is in action:

BTW: The rod & reel combo at Berrys is a Sage fly rod (I think a 5 wt) with a pink coloured Islander reel. It is over $1000, and some money goes to Breast Cancer charity. The combo is dubbed "Casting for the Cure".

I had looked it up and have seen the sages that you guys are talking about on ebay, they were a little out of my price range at that time and well....maybe now too i suppose but they were fly rods and i was thinking baitcasting would be a good setup for her.  I will call up riverside and see what they say though.  And yeah, maybe I should clearify my original post "Pink Coloured Rod".  BigSteel, closest i will get to pink is worms and whool but i wont rule out "trying" a pink rod once ;D

edit: thanks for the ideas guys, its helping

TFO makes one um as well, so much more affordable...it's for breast cancer research so you get a little bow on it too...Which brings up an important point for us guys...More guys will die of colon cancer then woman from breast cancer...that is a fact...I think they should come up with a rod for that too...but I'm sure a brown one won't sell as well...

Responding in an off way to the title of this thread- I personally like to use the two fisted underhand grip. Well okay, single handed grip. The double handed grip hurts my casting shoulder.  ::)

Try finding out what a minumum custom blank colour would cost. This is a good idea. You can then sell off the rest of the blanks or finish and sell them on ebay or locally. There will be a small market for this - but maybe well worth while.
