Title: Steelheading not over yet (March 26th, 2007)
Post by: Fish Assassin on March 26, 2007, 05:15:57 PM
Made a quick trip to my local flow this afternoon. I was somewhat surprised by the number of people out fishing and enjoying the sun. Hiked down to mid river run to find it dropping nicely into shape. Water is still a chilly 41 degrees. There was one fisherman present in the run. He reported that he had been there for 30 minutes or so and haven't had a hit. He invited me to join him. Fifteen minutes in I had a strike on my roe bag but I was too slow on the draw. A few minutes later the fisherman hooked and landed a beautiful steelhead in the low teens. He bonked it and left. Lucky guy ! I continued working the run in the hope of finding it's mate. It was not long coming. After I hung up on snag I retied and put on a fresh roe bag. I cast out to where the other fisherman had caught his steelhead earlier. As the float neared the area where he hit his fish, my float hesitated and slowly dipped. Not sure whether it was a steelhead or a snag I slowly lifted my rod and felt something moved. I set the hook and Fish On ! After a brief spirited fight he broke my leader. :'( Get out there guys, the best is yet to come.

Well, FA's local flow is usually the Cap, but somebody bonked a fish, so it can't be the Cap.  ;D

Rodney goes fishing?

If the truth be known, he does his fishing in the live tanks you find in restaurants.  ;D
