Title: New Baitcast Reel Suggestions
Post by: c-pin on February 19, 2007, 03:18:24 PM
I recently won a new fishing rod (courtesy of STS magazine - see page 10).

I got a Lamiglas 10'6" rated 8-12 lb. Any suggestions on a new reel to go with it?

I have the following reels: Abu C5 Mag (OK reel), Shimano TE400 - TE300 - 200GT (Love them), Penn 955 (Tough as Nails). I am looking for a smaller profile baitcaster.

Any suggestions?

I am looking at a Shimano CTE-200GT. The guide I went Steelheading with had two news ones and said they are awesome.

I would personally recommend the shimano curado 300...It is IMHO the sweetest low profile reel out there right now, and the 300 holds over 200 yards of line..as I know we are all line ho's on here...It's butter smooth, casts a mile and is bulletproof, Take a look at one and if possible try one out...you won't be disappointed..

Another choice would be the ABU D series !! they make two sizes and they are smooth as silk, cast two mlies and less than $200 , I have had one for a couple of years now and it is a great little reel

Not your traditional choice but I suggest you take a good long look at the Shimano Bantam 50. The best level wind ever made period.

You won't be dissappointed by going with the Shimano Curado 300 DSV. I have one on the same rod and its a sweet set up

i 2nd that... that thing packs boat load of line...
