OK my grandfather and I fished this system alot when we have an hour to kill and we have caught alot of fish and we new that their was steelhead in there but up in till a week ago we didn't see a steelhead angler so we took a drive and found a hand full of angler's fishing in a smaller but more productive part of the river but the key part in there is that it is small around eight feet to 15 feet wide in some spots so any small river or creek steelhead tips :-[

shorter rod i grew up on the ditch so u learn to improvise usually more natural baits like small garden worms and single eggs

My advise to anyone fishing these flows would be to stick to artificials. Smaller flows have higher densities of juvenile salmon, steelhead as well as hoards of small cutties all of whom are prone to swallowing hooks and or impaling their eyes on the hooks. You would be better severed to reduce unwanted bi-catch by eliminating the bait. Besides, these fish see very little pressure so they would likely hammer the first thing to drift past their face. I would recomend trying some ultra lite jigs, dic nite spoons or panther martin spinners.

important before fishing any flow, especially small ones is to check regs to ensure legal fishing methods. Most small flows have specific regulations. Surprising how many urban creeks or rivers don't even allow for fishing.
asides from that light gear as mentioned, and keep some adjusta bobbers (bubbles) handy. very useful when using flies or light spinners in shallow water with a light spinning rod.

Sunny out the guys got no jacket on but has to have a glove. ???

4 small splitties and an 11g float, with a #4 hook and roe bag,small chunk of roe, piece of shrimp or a dew worm. I dont get many smolts and even fewer cutthroat on the creeks I fish

Agree with KP, I don't have a problem with using bait. I prefer using a size 2 gami, making it harder for little guys to swallow, although I feel a lot of little nibbles I haven't deeply hooked any Cutties yet, also think roe bags with hardened eggs are better than soft roe to this end. Don't think a 2 spooks a Steely, they are just looking at the bait. Also like a single Jensen egg and wool. Have to agree with Biffchan about putting smaller hooks on spoon and spinners though, you can do some real damage with a 1/0 hook or even a 1, especially as the Cutts will just slash at spoons often getting hooked in the head.
