Headed out to the beautiful Fraser Valley at around 5:45 am, it was a very foggy drive to Chilliwack today, met up with Xgolfman at 6:30 am and after a brief visit to Reaction we were on our way to the Vedder, excitedly awaiting the chance to try out my new Milner Kingfisher... finally ;D
Started in the upper regions and found the water to be just about perfect, allthough it was a lot colder than I thought it would be :o after about twenty minutes of flogging some real pretty water in between cleaning ice off the guides , I decided to head up river to hit some pocket water... I asked Xgolf to come with me but he was more interested in yapping with fellow fishermen ;D ;D ;D fellow board members in fact :)
I found some great looking water and proceeded to put on a nice big chunk of bright red Chum Roe, cast out into some nice slack water and thought about how lucky we are to have this kind of fishing available so close to home !! on my third drift through this fishy looking water my floats torpedo's down and is followed by a flash of chrome and a big smile on my face.. I am thinking to myself how great it was to catch this beauty on my new reel the first day out ;D ;D ;D after a few great runs , a couple of spectacular jumps and an attempt to break me off behind a boulder she came to hand.. a beautiful chrome wild doe !!

all the time I had this fish on I was screaming to Golfman so he could take a pic for me !! unfortunately because of his advanced age he didn't hear me and I had to snap a few with my camera phone !!
I realease her back to the cold river and head back downstream to see how Golfman is doing, a few minutes later Norm joined us and we all headed back up river, I left the area I got my fish to Golf and Norm and I headed even further upstream to some nice looking pocket water and within ten minutes or so I was into another nice fish this time a buck, slightly bigger and also wild !! after two or three jumps and me trying to get my phone out to take a picture he managed to get away ::) no worries I was happy just to shake hands with this Buck !!
We continued to pound this water for another hour or so and then headed to the mid river to check out some new water... all in all it was a great day , with some great weather and great friends.

good report, sounds like a fun day, I knew somebody must have gotten into fish! we flogged the river all day from top to bottom and didnt even see a fish on, we packed up around 2:30 and when I got back to my truck a buddy who decided to stay and fish calls to say he just landed a nice hatchery! maybe I should have taken one more cast :P

It's not my fault it was mastercaster and ez rollings...M.C. got talking about fly fishing up North and well....sheeit...next thing I know Rick ditches me like a STD around a shot of penicillin...and he's off christening the new reel...WAS a great day..God, we spent more time laughing then fishing...saw some wicked nice water but the fishless one's reel is still cherry.. :'( damn cold this morning..

nice fish Rick was nice to talk to you and Xgolfman today ;D..... Mastercaster caught one out of that same run today but I will let him tell ya about it I was not as fortunate :-\

Great fish TR. Congrats to a successful outing. Did any one fish lower river & report the condition or fish catches there?

Although it was great bs-ing with Xgm this morning the whole time I was thinking I should have followed Thickrick up the river to focuss on some new water and sure enough he comes back with a couple of choice pics on his cell phone of the fish he caught. I decided to move up (possibly too late) thinking that "early bird rick" had possibly caught the only worm.
I worked my way up past the spot I assume Rick got his fish at and after slip- slided my way over that big log jam at the top end of the prison to get down to the river I was able to pick up a wild one about ten lbs. A guy below me walked up to watch me land it so I asked him to take a pic for me but I had forgotten to bring my brand new camera back at the truck. He took a pic with his own 35 mm camera and said he'd mail me the pic. Luckily, he had a pen with him to take my address because the one that I had leaked out in my jacket but that's another story.

damn...it's everyones fish day...now I know i'm cursed!!! :'(
I heard down below one was caught..we walked back out and there were three guys hanging off the rock on the other side....nothing like stamping down a decent hole..

Wow all this steely talk, and now i'm falling under the steel spell even tho i haven't been steelhead fishing before.
I'm definatley gonna head out sometime,
Wouldn't mind if i went with someone sometime that knew their stuff

Good job buddy! Would've loved to have been there but nature's been calling me all day and anywhere I've gone today had to have a washroom nearby and no waders on. :P
XGM: mission this year is to get you into a fish! Just so you know what it's like to catch a fish on a pin and understand the addiction.

Thanks Merc...I'm 10% frustrated and 90% enjoying the ride...I have as much fun just hangin out, listening the the B.S. and hiking the river...a fish would only be icing...You gotta check out winky's reel though...DAMN...it spins better then the Islander, didn't and fits the rod he had really nicely...

Great job guys. Very nice pic Rick, pity about the other one. Sounds like a great day, a couple Steelies and lots of laughs with some good friends. Could you ask for anything more? ;D
