Seems a lil silly to me !! if it was only 2 years ago that they has terrible returns, why would they offer such a ridicualous limit???
I know they are hatchery fish but still all those hatchery fish that don't lay their eggs in the hatchery will lay them in the river elsewhere which will help nature boost it's own population !
To me it is like winning the lottery and spending all you're winnings in the first year without putting any aside for later !
just my opinion

Ya too bad the Cowlitz returns haven't increased. Its more a case of the people running the hatchery not wanting to have to 'recycle' or dispose of the excess fish.

I have done a few Washington road trips this year, they do things much different down there from a management point of view as well as in the methods that they use to fish.
On my last trip down there I wimped out and ended up going to the Skykomish instead of to the Cowlitz / EF Lewis / Elochoman area where I had first intended on going.
I would highly reccomend heading down there to try it out it is definetly an eye opener seeing how things are done down there.
People who are used to fishing the Vedder will be amazed at the number of jet boats blasting by you down there it can be a little bit nuts.

Cam, yes can you imagine actually having fish in the rivers.
But as you state, the Province who said they wanted to have the best fishery in Canada have done absolutley nothing since the Premier stated that.
They want to increase licenses yet forgot that there must be fish to do this.
So far they have done nothing and it looks like that is where it will remain.
All you people who voted Liberal ask your MLA what they are doing about fish.
All you who voted otherwise ask your MLA to ask the question of the Liberal Party.

one thing about all the hatchery fish in Washington state; They have NOT rebuilt or saved any runs of streelheaqd. They HAVE given oppurtunity to fish at either a time of year or in a system that would be closed if it was left for wild fish only.
