2 MORE DAYS OR SO AND THE RIVER SHOULD B IN GOOD CONDITION, DID SOME WALKING AND FOUND SOME WICKED NEW WATER !
-
Still early yet.
Hopefully the weekend will be okay. At the very least worth an exploratory trip to see what the water looks like.
-
THE ONLY FISHABLE WATER WAS ABOVE ALLISONS POOL ! WATER WAS DIRTY BELOW, ONLY ABOUT 8 INCES OF VISIBILITY !
-
Well, my thoughts are if it doesn't clear there are a couple things we might consider...
- a bit less in the "crowds" department will occur
- the fishing won't be as pleasant, but on days when clarity isn't too bad we will still get some good fishing in
- on days when the river is dirty, hardly any crowds will be there, but we will still be able to find fish if we know where to look
- and lastly, but most importantly, how might this affect mortality of fish caught and released? Dirtier, more silt and clay laden water might mean a released steelhead will have more difficulty recuperating after release...?
Noticed a report a few days ago of someone getting a chrome chum on the ved...must still be some coming in...

i hit it up for the day on tuesday, same to report, okay vis up top, probably about a foot plus, everything below allison.... no vis. I did a lot of pounding ground and oh fricken my, is there some choice water to fish this year. I found some good spots way off the beaten path, some wicked seams and holding water that had vanished some 10 years ago are back... ;D ;D ;D
-
I ONLY SEEN 3 OTHER FISHERMEN ALL DAY LONG WHICH WAS NICE, BUT THAT'LL ALL CHANGE AS SOON AS THE STEELIES START SHOWING UP IN NUMBERS !
-
Cammer...What I mean by less crowds is, when the river is practically blown, or muddy and silted, less people will head out there to fish it...thus fewer people on the river...if it doesn't clear up much for steelhead season, and is constantly blowing out and silted, then there will be less pressure on the fish, hopefully...I too fish the upper river almost exclusively, but with less crowds in the lower end due to poor conditions, the fish will be less harrassed and spooky...they won't have to run the gauntlet so to speak. This might translate into an unexpected boon for those who know the river well...granted it won't be a night and day difference, but it could be significant with respect to angler/ rod days on the river...
-
They're all going to come and fish up top with you Rib :D... That's going to make for great opportunities for the fly flickers, I can't wait!
Cheers,
Nicole

Yeah...some likely will come up top to fish...! LoL I can hardly wait... ;) but still many others will not move to the upper river, especially those who do not know the river very well at all. There are still places on the upper river that you can avoid people, especially when you fish on the move like many of us do this time of year...Granted there is the possibility the top end will become more crowded, but I think overall the rod days per angler will likely be less, and as a result the steelhead will feel less pressure...it could turn out quite well... ;)

There is a clay/dirt bank at the top end of of Tolmies(where Andersons run turns to Nickersons) where the river used to flow by at 180* but now slams in at 90*!!.Saw it sliding in in dribs and drabs on Saturday. At the end of the day a large piece dropped in and turned the river chocolate.

Thats one reason that floods suck :P I'm hoping to search the river this weekend :-\
