Title: Steelhead on Van Island
Post by: Steely on December 04, 2006, 04:01:22 PM
My used to live over their and I was wondering if you can still fish little Qualicum river for steelhead because my dad is always talking about 10 fish days way back when ;) anyway I've only fished it once for salmon and had a great day. Any way any replies would be appreatiated.

PS: Any thing in the big Qualicum anymore  either in the way of steelhead thanks. :-\

Hey Steely,

I started fishing both the Little Q and the Big Q in 1979. I went to High School there, and still have family in the area. Your Dad is right; those rivers used to rock!

My Dad was on the Big Q this season. He was very disappointed. The run of Coho is practicaly non existant. The runs are not what they used to be. He still caught fish though, so it can't be all that bad.

Steelhead? Forget it. Very few returns.
