not much said about jigs on here. does anyone use them? i hear that they are used alot south of the boarder. ive fished the acoulpe times but the hooks would bend after each hook up. any suggestions on a good brand?

A jig thats made with gammy's.

Jigs can be very effective. I have short floated jigs tipped with shrimp on the vedder with much success. Other than the fly, I primarily use this method for steelhead short of the border. Already picked up 18 steelhead this year on the Snake and Columbia using jigs.

nice work. can you suggest any brands?

Bent Rod jigs!!!

bent rods. is that the same guy from this site?

I have caught lots of fish on jigs. I have caught salmon, steelhead, bull trout and cutties as an accidental catch when targetting steelies. I like them and they can be fished in various different ways. They can be short floated, they can be used just casting and retrieving, they can also be used by jigging hence the name "Jigs"

I tie them myself.

I use them. They work. One more weapon in the arsenal. ;)

I make them. Either use a bucktail pattern or maribou. I also use Trout Beads on the Jigs. They're very easy to make, don't really save me much money, but it's kind of therapeutic to make them.

anyone wanna tie some up for me?? i want 5, 2 pinks 2 purples, and 1 that is a good pattern is a good pattern?

I caught a real nice chum on the stave this year with a half ounce purple jig with sparse flash. I tied it straight to my main line and did a jigging motion while retrieving. The chum hammered it as it was hooked on the top inside of the tip of it's mouth.

Pinks hammer then as well. Fun the cast into the clear water when a school goes by and watch a couple of them go for it. They can't resist the twisty tail.
