Thickrick and myself decided to hit the Squish today looking to get into some clean chum. I arrived at his door at 5:50 a.m. and after a quick stop at Mr. Horton's for some breakfast sandwiches and fritters and coffee (although I wish TR would stop at 'Buck's instead!) we were off. TR's friend Hunter and his uncle were going to meet us there as well. Rather than going to the Mamquam, we decided to hit a different spot, one that I knew about but haven't gone to this year as the first nations had closed off the path access to this spot last year. Looks like they've decided to allow access again as there was no sign hanging there. We hiked to the river and started fishing. This is a nice spot as there aren't too many people, the flow of water is a bit slow but there's still lots of fish. I know I hooked over 20 fish, landed I don't know how many and ended up keeping one. This fish, in fact:

A nice doe that was gutted, cleaned, fillet'd and skinned after I got home.
TR got into many fish as well but he decided not to keep any today. Since his smoker was stolen recently, I guess he didn't want any extra meat.
Hunter got into some fish as well and I believe he took home a buck. His uncle got into quite a number of fish, and took home a fish.
Today, we used yarn of all sorts of colors, jigs, beaded flies, and a spinner (which was the only thing that didn't connect and was changed after about a dozen casts).
Water had about 2 feet of vis when we got there but got murkier as the day rolled on and as more rain fell. Good day to be out. TR landed a few fish on jigs today, a first for him. He may not be a believer in jigs yet, but at least he knows they work! Meanwhile as I type this, I'm curing up this latest batch of roe. New techniques to try again!
Oh, and we met Lucky and his girlfriend today as well. Howdy folks!

Nice report Merc....I was also out there yesterday with a few friends...Stayed away from the squamish for the most part....fished the mamquam alot though...better water, less people...each of us took home 1 nice clean chum...water levels were decent as the system that blew out the valley rivers must've skirted past the howe sound area sunday night so conditions were decent...
Lot's of people out there, but easy to avoid the crowds and still get fish...
Rib
"took home 1 nice clean chum"....Never thought I'd hear muself saying that! LoL... ;D :D

Nice Fish ! Merc . On another note . Has any angler noticed that there are these so called fisher persons out on the river buchering up there catch on the river . Does it not say in the regs that anglers are not to do this untill you get the fish home ? .
-
You're permitted to clean your catch on the river providing you keep the tail on for identificatio purposes.

I got there a little before 7am lots of trucks there already
when i got to the water there were not many guys there
I guess most headed up the Mamquam
Water was about 3ft visability and low ish as tide was out
First cast fish on
nice chrome doe
then it was prety much lots of fish all day
There was lots moving in with the tide rise
I noticed that the guys both sides of me were not getting as many as me and the ones they got were snagged
Then after closer inspection i noticed they were fishing 3 to 4 foot water with there lead set at 6 to 8 foot with long leaders :-\
I was fishing at 2 to 3 foot with a short leader
my short float method made me look good
I think i only snagged a few fish
it was a fun day out for me no Hos but lots of fun with the chum
and the weather was fine only a couple of showers here and there ;D
tried to take a few pics but batteries were dead :-\

BG,
Sounds like a good day out. I was at the Cheakamus on Saturday and my buddy got a jack coho that he released. I hooked one nice chum the whole day but all in all it was good to be out. As an added bonus there were only two other guys fishing the spot we were fishing on the Cheakamus.

hate to say it, but with this continuous rain, coho season is pretty much a write off. :'(
