A new time change, a new fishing day. Always the promise of fish (or the hope of a fish), and the camaraderie that comes with good people fishing (and hey, even the people you go with! ;D). Started the morning early at Thickrick's place while waiting for Big Steel to pick us up for a trip to the 'Squish. Didn't know what to expect but didn't think that the power grid out in parts of the downtown core boded well for the day. Didn't know if the river would be blown out, or fishable. But that's okay, what's life without a little risk?
We got to our first spot early and fished rather rigorously. For our rewards, I only managed to land one chum, and hooked and lost a measly few fish. :'(. Meanwhile, TR and BS both hooked into numerous chum and some wild coho. They even managed to land a few. Here's a pic of TR's coho. It was pretty dark and had been in the system for awhile.
TR's wild coho:

Meanwhile, BS also landed a wild coho but escaped before we could make it famous. Actually, BS was clumsy and it slipped out of his hands into the water. :-\
Now, both boys will swear up and down on a stack of bibles that they each had a chrome coho on while I had wandered away to inspect the water further upstream. I can't comment on what I didn't see. ;)
We then moved onto the Mamquam. What a difference a week makes! While the river wasn't blown out, visibility had dropped to 1.5 feet, even less in parts. And the water had come up a lot. So, more fishing ensues, with both boys getting into fish, and landing some, while yours truly, having a cursed day hooks into the odd one but cannot bring one to the beach. ::) I think that the combination of TR and BS = bad luck for me.
But enough of my whining. Here's a few other pics:
TR and his chum that he bonked for the smoker:

BS and the chum TR bonked because we didn't take a pic of the male chum he bonked and were too lazy to go to the truck for a pic this late in the day. ;D ;D

For the record, TR's chum was bigger but BS's chum was cleaner.
Here's a pic of the brokeback boys at play:

Those big smiles may not have anything to do with that coho TR landed..... :o :o ;D ;D

LOL. awsome report thanks for sharing!
-
haha good job. I was also out on the river today. I had a day kinda like yours MERC. Hooked into 7 but could only land a couple. Oh well its great to be on the water. :)
-
Yeah it was a great day!! Fun as well, but not in the way you sicko's are thinking!! ::) ;D I would have liked to seen a bit more on how that funky blade I gave Rick would have worked if he hadn't had lost it right after he got that Coho on it!! But hey, it worked for one big ho real quick, so..... As for my fish, all were hooked on Silver blades of various sizes and all of the Ho's slammed them hard. The hit was awesome.
As for those big Doe chrome Coho thick Rick and I both lost, well, we know they were Coho because they jumped and rolled all over the place. After Rick's broke him off, it cartwheeled all over the place rubbing salt into the wound Rick had after beeking it off!! As sad as it was for him to lose it, it was also fun looking at the expression on his face when he realized it was a Ho!!! ;D As for the other 2 that I lost, well, they both just spit the hook on me!! ??? The second one just after showing me his nicely hooked jaw and slight purple sides!! I would have also liked to have a pic of the one I landed, but in getting him turned around for the pic, he made a run for it, and I couldn't get a hold of him again!! He was playing possum I guess!! ;D
So yeah, a real fun day, and spent with a great Guy in merc, and a strange and disturbing guy in Rick!! ;D But I guess he is ok as well!! :-*
-
Haha yes what fun we had ;D ;D ;D
I got to fish both Saturday and Sunday this weekend and it was a blast... catching and bonking a chrome 10 lb doe ho on the chedder saturday and catching my biggest coho to date on sunday in Squamish, that along with about 50 other fish caught and released over a two day span makes me very very happy ;D ;D ;D ;D
Merc, Bigsteel and Fishfreak are definately a different group, but great guys none the less... we had some fun

That is 3.5 lbs ??? ;D I think to qualifiy for the term Coho, it was to be al least 5 lbs, or it is rightly called a Jack!! You and Freak seem to be the King of the Jacks!! ;D You might graduate to real Coho one day with enough time spent on the river!! ;D

Yeah thats exactly where that pic was taken... it seemed a lot of fish were swimming close to shore away from the mud
on our way home we could see the dirty Squamish water emtying into the ocean.. quite a spectacle!!!!

Nice one, I see the Squamish is still impacted by the rain from last week. The streak of cold nights ahead of us should solve that problem quite quickly. ;)

I see you've found the elephant Rick. ;D Look how elongated that nose is! ;) A typical good sized Squamish coho nevertheless.
TRK, nice rod holder. ;D
-
Thickrick and Big Steel, you guys are hilarious.
-
bet it was too cold to do gay porn posing? :D :D
Well that wind had me fondling my C.P. but thought to hell with it and watched football all day...No fly fishin for me in that....(can't find the little smillie guy for lazy slug on here?)
-
You're correct about the wind xgolfman. I was out at the Squish yesterday and the wind really messed up my fly casting! At one point, I couldn't cast more than 20 feet! Ouch. Also - eye protection is a must when the wind blows your line into your face on the back cast! I had to be creative - doing back-handed casts to avoid injuring myself!
The morning started off great. I had about eight fish hooked in the first hour - but only managed to land 1. I lost an absolute chrome bar that jumped several times. I thought I was going to get her in when the hook popped out of the mouth! Doh! I had another clean fish right at the beach when the fly popped out of the mouth. Must be one of those days!
Then the wind picked up and it was tough fishing from then on. I hooked a half-dozen more fish and landed big buck - similar to thickrick's fish. I decided to release him.
All in all it was a good day - minus the wind. I hope those clean fish are still around for the next week or two!

Another note to Rick and Dave : BRING FISHING GEAR WITH YOU, IM NOT A TACKLE STORE ;D FISHFREAK do you have a hook, do you have line, do you have roe, do you have floats, do you have any weights, ::) ;D how about you give me your rod and i will fish it for you ;D
Why would we give you our rod's ??? then we would never get into any fish ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
