Title: Vedder oct 8th
Post by: summersteel on October 08, 2006, 02:45:40 PM
Hit the vedder at first light, me and Rob had two of the most popular and deep holes to our selves all morning. I caught a clean female spring of about 16lbs which I released, and Rob also released a spring and a jack, and a chum. No coho touched but we saw a few.  BP

Man we are seeing so many reports of low coho caught in the vedder the last 3 years it must be the low funding of the chilliwack river hatchery. They only do half the fish they use too. The coho and chinook quotas have been cut in half. Errrrr.

Pretty much the same report as this from Merc and I!!  Oh yeah, Fish Freak and Roe kid were there as well.  4 Springs and 4 Chums to the beach for me, Merc landed a couple Chum and I think the Freak and Roe kid got skunked.  Didn't see that many coho around, Just a handful holding in every run we went to, but like many others, could not get thrm to pick up anything.  Still A nice day to be out, I just wish that all the rain I drove through on the way out would have materialized on the river. :-\

fished low on the canal at first light, alot of chums around but not much being caught, headed upper mid river and found a nice run with some really clean springs, took one 20lb semi chrome doe home, played and lost many others as well as a couple chum, saw a couple springs caught beside me in the 30-40 pound range. only saw one coho caught all day and it was around 2 this afternoon a bright 8 pound hatchery.

Was meant to be a 1st light adventure today but when you set the alarm for 415 and don't actually turn it on, a sleep-in is inevitable.  Second time out to the Vedder for me this year and I brought both set-ups, fly and drift.  Hooked up with a nice chum to land the first salmon on the fly this year - looking forward to more.  Had another for me on the drift gear on a jensen egg and I decided to move down below the Vedder crossing.  Ended up around Yarrow and fished there.  Saw a coho and a jack around a debris pile but couldn't tempt them with a rolled muddler.  Took another fish on the jensen egg and had a couple of hits on roe.  Packed it up about 230 and head off back to Burnaby.  Great weather if you like sun but rain please!
