Does anyone know if Fred's is planning a spring derby this year?
-
From what I have heard it has been cancelled due to poor fishing methods to target them !!
-
What. . . i dont believe it ! its usually around thanks giving day im sure it will still be on. Its not like people havent been using BB in deep pools to catch for the last 5 years. >:(
-
They may not be bouncing, but snagging sure is abundant. Just look for the guys who set the hook at the end of each drift.
-
Slightly off topic but will the steelhead derby be cancelled as well ? There are people out there snagging for them as well.
-
good point !!!!!
after seeing the snagfest at the Lickman Meat hole last year I wouldn't doubt it... whatever happened to Steelheading being a pure sport

The Thanksgiving weekend chinook derby on the Vedder was always part of the Help Habitat Fundraiser (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=11850.0) (unless you are talking about a different derby by Fred's). It was decided that the fish were brought in by all means and some fish were are beyond their prime were brought to the weighing station. The two reasons lead to the decision of having just a social fundraiser, with various activities such as auctions, lunch and prize draws.
