This year will be my first attempt at Salmon fishing in the lower Fraser. Ive scouted out a few promising spots but I still have one problem...I have NO IDEA what to do or what to look for. I also don't know what bait works well for different species. I'm a prairie boy so Pike, Walleye and Catfish are all I know. any tips would be appreciated. ;D

Yup no wool combos down there LOL
If you are barfishing (when it re-opens) just use a 3 way swivel with about 3oz of weight and use some roe on your hook. If you want to spincast try using spinners and spoons. I believe Rod has some nice ones still available.

Thanks guys, If I buy pre-cured roe from Canadian Tire do I just rip a chunk off and put it on the hook???

lol OK, I'll get some from berry's when Bait fishing is aloud on the Fraser again. But do I just put a chunk on the hook??? Ive heard some people talk about little mesh bags??? ???

hardware for coho is a great idea for a beginner...hardware is very productive and hard to screw up in terms of the presentation...its kinda like recommending a pink worm to a new steelhead fisher...good reliable presentation thats easy to fish.

To make roe easy for you just buy some spider thread and wrap it onto the hook. Or as gooey said throw hardware. As a begginer its the most simple method and will keep you busy instead of just sitting.

Do you have some pictures of some of the spoons you guys use. I got given to me a box of spoons and others lures from a co worker who's father past. I'm a newbie myself and photos and a few pics would really help out.

Go look at the buy sell and look at Rodneys spoons and spinners. Also blue foxes are nice in the frog water. I have had allot of success using the blue foxes in my locations near me.

Please also note that you are only allowed to keep chum and chinook salmon in the Lower Fraser right now. All coho (both wild and hatchery) and sockeye salmon have to be released, and you also can't use bait (roe) when fishing for salmon. Starting October 7th, you may keep two hatchery coho salmon and use roe when fishing for salmon.
