Title: Sockeye Aug 8th.
Post by: Big Steel on August 08, 2006, 01:57:58 PM
Decided to head out after all late last night. Made it to the river at about 4:20am. We were the first people at Seabird this morning, and man was it nice being able to pick any spot on the whole bar. Turns out we picked right. I was done with 2 Socks real qiuck. Gt and our Buddy Dave took a bit longer, but we were all done by 10am. Was a nice quick day out on the flow, and it had picked up a far amount from the day before.  :)
The crowd was good and polite this morning, and some of the people there who were there yesterday as well, were still feeling a bit somber.  :(

Gee big steel I thought that you where not going to post today. I sure had a tough time keeping the sox to stick today hopefully tomorrow it will change. I think I am going to change to gammys. Even the spring came off. I think I was 2 for 6 for the sox and 0 for 1 on the springs today. We would of been done even earlier. Hopefully tomorrow will be quick.

Yes Rick I can't wait to meet you either and I will constantly remind big steel that the first fish is yours. Good luck with your training over the next couple of weeks and just in case I forget to say good luck in the show I will say it now.

No he was talking leader length.  I feel that this still may be a bit much, as I have had most of my sucess over the years with a 10-12 foot leader. :)

PM sent Lil fishermen.  Hope this helps out a bit.   :)  Everyone has to start somewhere.  Contrary to what a lot of people say, this isn't a no skill fishery.  There are so many little things that must be done right when in a big crowd of people to ensure a possitive experience. :)  Flossing the Fraser itself is easy if there isn't anyone around.  The tough part come when you have people fishing 3' apart all the way down the bar.

10 feet is plenty or the length of your rod!  Use too much and it is difficult to handle especially with the crowds.  Someone is going to get it in the eye especially if it is windy!  I went to lighter leader today and no corky and did quite well.  Sharp hook as well.
