Title: sea bird aug 7
Post by: Green Horn on August 07, 2006, 10:36:13 AM
Hello All!

The wife and I got to the fishin hole at about 5AM. From 5 to 7:30 fishing was slow at best. There was about a dozen fish caught from all the jumping fish and fisherman yellin "fish on". But I had enough. I was packing my gear getting ready to go when a man was fighting a spring.(fish was about low 30's) I wanted a picture or two for this web site...so off I went with him. The picture I attached here is the shore line looking south. I took a few more of this gent when as I was looking through my viewfinder his pole hit me in the head...I grabbed it and looked back at him and he was falling to the ground. I could see he was in great trouble. I asked somebody to take his rod from me...as other fisherman came to his aid. For over 20 minutes about 6 fisherman and a Lady worked giving this man CPR and mouth to mouth. I elevated his legs. Another fisherman went to get his 4X4 truck another was on line with 911.
The main thing here is...all you fisherman that stopped fishing and rendered first aid and helped...I am proud of you and I was proud to be part of the group! It is people like you that make a bad day look like a walk in the park. All the EMT's and SAR personnel that had to hike to the scene...you all rock! Thanks for your time!

As for the pictures I took of this man fighting his fish....out of respect...I choose not to post them here. I did give his friends my card. His family can have a the pictures of what might have been this mans last happy moment...fighting a very nice fish!

WOW!  I'm sorry to hear that someone had to experience a serious medical condition!  In a way - that may be the best way to go...doing what you love and with a fish on!  I hope that gentleman is OK...

Yes I was out with crew also today, Me thickrick and bigsteel and roeman fished together, Yeah that was a very tragic incident that happened, Good for all those who stopped fishing, As the man walked by me he was saying how big the fish was then about 25 feet down he collapsed, Everyone there tried everything  they could do,  lots of people were helping, Me and the roeman met the parametics and helped directed them to the place.

It is very sad and very agonizing for the family I am sure. But, if I die doing something I love, it is way better than dying in a hospital with cancer.

RIP, 2006

i cannot stop thinking about this incident. so horrible. unfortunately, he did not make it. it was very sad to see as the red 4x4 drove buy with the firefighters and paramedics in the back doing the best they can, and knowing he would probably not make it.

I give credit to all the people who helped out. It's just sad to see it end like this.

It certainly will be a tough few days for all that were in this area today to see this tragic event.

For all the ones that tried their best to save this angler including a number from this forum especially Thickrick you are to be congratulated for your attempts to revive him.

Thanks from all of us.

Chris

Today was a very sad day for me... the man passed away doing something he loved.. I have the image of him walking downstream with a huge smile on his face screaming FISH ON burned into my mind and it makes me smile whenever I think of it.... but I am sure he also left behind family and that makes me very sad !!!  watching his life slowly fade away was very difficult... he coughed a couple of times while I was performing CPR and I really thought that he was going to make it at one point... watching his friend hold his hand .......... I am having a hard time dealing with it today and I am having a hard time thinking about anything else .. I know there is nothing else we could have done... but ...... I am so sad for his family and if you read this I hope you understand that he passed very quickly.. I am sure he felt no pain.... and he died doing something he loved.. I hope these facts help you cope in some way.. you are in my prayers..

I bet! It would be a hard thing to get out of your mind. What you could have done different, how things could have gone if you did somehting different.

It will take awhile to get over for sure. Just remember, if it was his time to go it was his time to go even with everyones help. Try to think of him cathcing all the sockeye he can is the Fraser in the sky, where he is the only one on the bar.

I guess what this also should remind us is to make certain that we leave home for a fishing day or just driving somewhere making sure that we tell those we love how important they are to us.  I too witnessed an accident on the Coq as I was returning home.  An elderlly man fell asleep at the wheel and went into an embankment.  Besides minow injuries he was ok but shaken up.  He was 83 and heading to a family get together!  We take our fragile lives for granted!  Are we sure that this man did pass away.  I have seen diabetics foam at the mouth and make it ok?  I hope he did.  If he didn't, maybe you guys can build a little rock monument in his hounour at the site just to remind people about the incident.  It does make you grow up fast!  But we forget too easily! :(

Does anyone know this persons name? I think that we ought to re-name seabird in memory of our fallen commrade.
