Well you gotta post some time or other. With the kids in camp last week, my wife, Kim suggested we throw the canoe in Hatzic and chase some Bass. We did well on the Crappies and took home enough for a meal. As for the Bass Kim hit and lost two on a Big Black (my favorite leach pattern). I started and stuck with a Black Gnat, when you are hitting Crappies on nearly every cast it is hard to change patterns in hopes of catching MR Bass.
Here's my recomendations: work the shoreline on the west side of the Island about 100 to 150 yards out. Don't bother with the west side of the lake by Neilson Park, the weeds are way to thick there and will do nothing but foul your prop. As far as the Crappies in Hatzic go, I am impressed; they tend to bigger than the one I have caught in Whonnock and more aggessive. I will be going back and taking the kids. For along time I have been recomending Whonnock to those who want to experince 30+ fish a day here in the lower mainland, now I am changing my tune "Hatzic is Hot!"

Sounds like to two had a great day. How long was the biggest crappie you caught. Were they all caught on the dry fly? Thanks

When you say you caught crappie you don't mean Mr Floatie do you? That lake had a horrible reputation for that some years ago. Back then they were going for corn.

No Crappie as in panfish. All around the 8 to 9 in range. Like I said I think the Wife hit two bass, if not bass they would have been some of those wopper slabs that go 17 in. Yes I was using a Black Gnat dry.
