Title: Bar fishing works this morning
Post by: nosey on July 03, 2006, 09:41:58 AM
This isn't your classic bar fishing type bar but as long as there's a gravel bottom out in front  of you and enough current to spin that spinning glow it can work. Too snaggy for bottom bouncers helps quite a bit too. It pays to check the steeper banks in the winter to see what kind of bottom there is out front of them when looking for places to bar fish, there are a lot of spots along the river that nobody ever thinks of as fishable that a spinning glow works admirably in. Above spaghetti along Herlling Is. comes to mind. By the way if you're worried about losing gear in a strange spot try using a railroad spike for a weight, tie it on with butcher cord so it won't cut your line then go to 10 or 12 lb up to your rigging so it'll break off when you get a fish on. These two hit the beach before 8:00 a.m. this morning.

It's not an avon, it's a Grice and Young Sejecta or Sequoia, can't quite read it from use, drum is 1 1/2 in. wide holds over 300 yds. of 30 mono, way too heavy for float fishing.  Back in the 60's and early 70's was the Cadillac of bar fishing centerpins.

I know the exact spot but my lips are sealed. I saw them taking them out there pretty good when I was there a few years ago.

We found some fish today also, one in the 15 pound range and another around 25, also missed another. Too tired to write the journal. ??? ::)

The good thing is the spring run seems strong this year which is nice to see.
O, by the way the silver #0 with the red top is starting to get pretty scratched up as has been in a few blackmouths already this year. ;D ;D

Went out really late today because I was expecting to have to work but got the day off and decided I'm going to catch another Chinook. Was out for a couple hours. Hooked a tank early on but it got off. This one drilled my glow and didn't get off. A nice red female of around 18lbs give or take to mark on the license for my second of the year. A buddy went to a bar below us in a boat where he met up with some friends and all 8 of them packed a fish out today too. Driving out we ran into a big black bear and saw a white minivan on the freeway fully ingulfed with flames.

How does the line stay tight, is there a drag system on that reel?

There is a brake that just barely holds the line in heavy current, when reeling in you  have to take the brake off as it works both directions, with a fish on keep your fingers out of the handles ;D

Even after using single action reels for a coon's age a blunt nose wrapped my fingers  pretty good yesterday.

Can hardy type today. ;D ;D ;D

You wear those burns like badges of triumph when you land the fish, hurt like Hell and make you look stupid when you lose 'em.
