Title: best way to dispatch a fish
Post by: marmot on June 30, 2006, 04:18:34 PM
Hey all,  I was going to post this in FISHBC, but I figured I'd be crucified for it...I know there are alot more killers on this board (or so it seems)...anyways, Im curious about the various methods people use to dispatch their catch, and why you think its the best way to do it (or not!)...Myself, for smaller fish i usually break the neck really fast.   I carry a peice of city grade rebar in my pack for the big ones.  Its a one hit wonder but i dont use it on the little guys because i fear it might take the heads off!  And dont worry, I dont kill everything i catch :) ...just the tasty ones!

I break the necks of fish smaller then about 6 pounds or so.  It is quick and they bleed too.  Otherwise I just use a rock or whatever is handy to smash the big ones in.  I try to be as quick as possible.  The roeman does it it one hit. ;)

I just use a fish bonker. One good whack between the eyes and it's lights out. I then slit the gills to bleed it.

anything smaller then 8 pounds or so i usually use my fist, unless a rock or log is handy.
