Following an early brunch of pancakes and sausages and a visit to my local mechanic to have a nail removed from my tire I headed off to my local river for an hours fishing. Upon arrival at the mid river run I was delighted to see that it was devoid of fishermen. Within 10 minutes I had a bite near the tailout. I set the hook and for a brief moment I thought I had hooked a big coho. It took off for the rapids. Luck was on my side as I managed to keep it in the run. The fish decided to change strategy as it headed straight for me. I reeled as fast as I could to catch up with the slack line. It then went ballistic doing a couple of cartwheels and making several aerial jumps. I was a summer steelhead ! :) After a few more minutes I managed to land and released this beautiful creature. It was chrome, not a hint of colour anywhere. It was approximately 13 lbs. Made my afternoon.
