Title: Sturgeon Report may 18
Post by: legend on May 18, 2006, 07:56:50 PM
Was on the river by 8:00 am this morning headed East of the Port Mann to my first spot set the anchor and was baited up and fishing by 8:20 am . 8:30 and the rod starts to tap and shake violently grabbed it and gave it the hook set from hell fish on started to reel in as it was swimming towards the boat then the line went slack lost it. Re baited the hook cast back out and waited 9:10 am tap tap hook set fish on a little guy 2 1/2 feet catch release quick pic of course. Then the tide started to ebb a little more and the bite died off . So i moved further east tried dropping the anchor in several places as i worked my  self all the way to Kanaka creek mouth no more takers or shakers . The fish finder was going mad across from Derby reach fish showing at 32 feet i was in 46 feet must of been salmon there were three springs  that i seen jumping 2 around the poco side of Douglas island and one across from Derby reach great day to be out tons of logs and debris freshset is in affect use extreme caution . The bait of choice Smelts all hits on them tried Roe notta tap.  Last seasons stave chum roe . Heading out at first light to hit the high slack in the early morning will post an update tomorrow.

Hey Legend, will you be fishing the lower? I'm launching at Mission tommorow at 7:30am. Going to some spots for springs then below Mission for some sturge. If you see my boat stop by and say hi.

I think the best part of the day was watching Petey try and figure out how to get them on the hook!! ;D ;D  I mean the bait, not the Sturgeon!!  None of us were able to get them interested!!! :( ;D

Shore fished the north arm today for 4 hours, caught one small fish on worms about a foot and a half long, didnt even know it was on until I checked my bait.  Visability was next to nothing, tried for pikeminnow a while and barely had a nibble, last weekend I couldnt keep them off the hook.
