Title: Quick but successful day on the Vedder
Post by: SockeyeJunkie on April 15, 2006, 10:01:58 PM
Got to the Vedder late (about 2:00) and went directly to one of my favorite spots this time of year - Bell Acres.

I started at the top of the run and cast the grid with no hits. I moved down about 10 steps and again cast the grid. On my last and furthest cast out, the drennan took a quick little dip. After I reeled in, I saw my roe has what looked like a bite out of it. Hmmmm.

I cast once more back into the exact same spot and with luck, the drennan goes down again and I quickly set the hook. I get 4 quick head jerks and I am now sure I have a fish on. The fight goes on for about 5 minutes and I bring to shore the steelhead. I bring it close to see if it is a hatch or wild and it is in fact a hatchery fish. Due to being busy and sick a few times, this was only my 4th time out this year. I was lucky enough to be able to bring home a nice hatchery female that I weighed river side at 10 pounds.

I look at my watch and I have only been at the river for 10 minutes - lucky I am a local and it was not a long drive.

I forgot the camera so I had to wait until I got home to take a picture - apologies for the kitchen shot - see below.
