Post by: Rodney on December 22, 2023, 10:23:33 AM
Ice fishing season started a few weeks ago in Interior BC. Here's a video from our first trip. Enjoy.

There are comments that are unexpected to read on a fishing forum. This pretty well tops the list! 😀

If there isn't a bottle of bubbly at midnight, it's not New Year's Eve! ;D

I came from the country that invented bubble tea, and I've actually only had it maybe a couple of times in my life... :o

I drank Early Grey on NYE, like an old man. ;D

Yup, Taiwan. Taiwan is known for much more though! Not a big fan myself. The bubbles are like gelatin. I am not a big fan of Earl Grey either. Of black teas I tend towards English and Irish Breakfast.

I haven't visited Taiwan since 1991, but my connection to the country is pretty strong since my parents have a place there and were still going back and forth all these years. We were supposed to visit it in March 2000, but that got canceled obviously. I was hoping to do it before my dad passed, but it just hadn't really been possible post-covid until maybe now.

Early Grey is not my favourite. Lady Grey, English and Irish Breakfast are. We just have a lot of Early Grey from Costco since that's the one wife likes to drink... :-X

More ice fishing pics...

This year I've started mentoring a young lady who has wanted to get into the YouTube game. This was Linda's first ice fishing experience and the first fish was a pretty good one! 17.5in brookie.

Any recommendations on lakes to visit next weekend? ~ 3-4 hour drive from Vancouver. Not sure which elevations would be good with all this warm weather recently. open to 4WD lakes aswell

Rod:
Go out there when it is -30 this week. Will give new meaning to the term hard water fishing.

Not technically Ice Fishing but more Fishing in the Ice/Snow. Had a lot of fun last week fly fishing the lower mainland lakes from shore. Seems like the sudden warm temperatures and snowmelt got the rainbows really excited and they were smashing any flies I put in front of them. Looks like there will be temperatures in the double digits and rain in the coming week so it should still be good. Many lakes still have a lot of trout on them from the fall stockings

Always dicey so lately I don't even try that one during January. Many times been there just with my fly rod hoping it will have melted only to have to go back home empty handed after a nice hike  - last season there was ice well into March!

Mostly focusing on all the other lakes that don't freeze, and doing quite well! Hopefully I won't see you as I believe you are the one that always beats my *ss  ;D

Rod has been eating so many brook trout, I worry his face is going to break out in little red spots with blue haloes! ;D
