The old geezer should have released it. >:( In all probability a female that would have produced vast quanities of eggs. I guess just because you get old doesn't mean you necessarily get smart. They say brain cells die as you age and this just proves that idea.Plus one that size is crappy eating.

Unfortunately jealousy and small mindedness are part and parcel of the human condition.

Also-while fish that size aren't quite as tender as ones under 30# they are still excellent eating-anyone who says otherwise has never eaten a larger fish.

Hmmm jig heads seem to kind of dull unless they are painted. As to my knowledge of halibut, i did maintenance at most of the Steveston fish plants for about 20 years. Had all sorts of complementary halibut, over size ones are tough and stringy compared to those 60 lbs and under. When you have seen over a thousand halibut in several fish plants come and talk to me jiggy.

He never insulted him for catching the fish. He is talking from experience. Some people just dont know so you cant really blame him for taking it home if he doesnt know. Maybe thats the responsibility of the guide to educate him and than let him make the final decision.

Some might interpret this as an insult:

I guess just because you get old doesn't mean you necessarily get smart. They say brain cells die as you age and this just proves that idea.

But one must realize Speycaster is talking from personal experience. ;D

He's right though, big fish of any species are the driven force of population recruitment. There should be a maximum size allowed implemented on most groundfish species.

FWIW-WCQCI is the home of some of the biggest Halibut of all- Here Be Monsters  as it were, a few less won't make much difference considering how many commercial fishermen kill each year.

One thought-maybe FWR could do cooking classes so the unfortunates here who've never learned how to cook fish properly could enlighten themselves.
