Capilano River, November 2nd 2013
« on: November 02, 2013, 11:23:26 AM »

Went to the Cap this morning with the intention on catching a nice big greasy spring for fun. Arrived at lower Capilano around 7:45am still dark. As I navigated with a headlamp I was surprised to see 4 other people already fishing. (I'm not sure why I was surprised actually). Fished with some nice twoonie or bigger gobs of roe (Not boraxed). Caught about 5 small trout/coho jacks. I didn't bother looking at them to closely as I was just worried about letting them go as fast as possible. Finally hooked up to a nice spring salmon I would guess 20lbs?(Mayble someone can educate me on the weight) I have a digital Berkly scale but only weigh fish I plan on keeping. Fought it for about 7-10 mins with lots of life still left in him as you can tell in 1 of the very poor photos it wriggled around on me. Fun day but didn't see anything overly fresh kicking around.

Again I apologize for the poor photo quality: An angler was nice enough to snap a couple photos in the pouring rain with my wet phone.

i find springs i catch in that condition("good for the smoker") still give a good fight.... not much for jumps but like a bullldog bearing down hard and peeling line with little effort until theyre exhausted. just pouring out there today.

Hmmm. Don't have a smoker (Condo) but maybe I should have made Salmon jerky.

That is not a good for the smoker...looks done table fare wise, still fun to catch. I would guess 15 lbs on that one. ;D

Please don't even think of keeping a fish like that unless it's for dog food and even then.

A little off topic and I hope you don't mind aaron600 but I've been wondering, is the Cap camera broken or is the water level really that low. I've never seen it this low before except maybe in July. I'm not planning on visiting the Cap I'm just curious about the camera.

Oh and thank you aaron600 for the report and the fishing pics, always nice to see. Thank You !!!

It's that low.  Can cross the river some spots without getting boots wet.

Thanks cutthroat22 for the speedy response. I guess a little more rain is needed and I'm sure before 2 weeks is done mother nature will respond and fill that reservoir up and the Cap will be back to a good flow. Thanks again c22 !!!

I'd probably keep that fish if I was alone in the wilderness and hadn't eaten in quite sometime.....

Water level was very low but I have seen it a lot worse. Float drift was extremely slow. ^^^ ;D
