So fellow fishers,
I thought it only happened to other people but reality set it yesterday and it happened to me.
Screwdriver to pry and bust side window to steal a swack of change from counsel and window cleaner then worked their way to back trunk to take redington sonic pro jacket, salomon runners and to add insult to injury, my JEANS.
Other side of bridge in lot on the left.
My insurance company suggests there were 10 claims last year from there.
It was a smash and grab. I posted this only to let ppl know that it doesn't matter if your car is clear of belongings, it is still subject to vandalism. In the long run they did shy of $1600 damage.
P.S. I saw a newer black Ford black pickup come and go all in 4 mins while fishing.
First world problems I must admit but none the less an downer after a wonderful day on the river.
Tight lines.

Dude that sucks! Sorry to hear about that. It is almost incomprehensible what lengths people will go to sometimes to what amounts to nothing more than spare change. I have to admit that I sometimes leave things in my vehicle while out fishing, that are valuable to me, and would rather not have stolen. I try to never leave anything in plain site, but sometimes half asleep on the rush to the fishing hole the inside of my truck can look like a fishing gear bomb went off. sucks they had to take your pants too, that's pretty low.
-
Only leave in your vehicle what you can afford to lose.

Sorry to hear >:( I saw an ad a while back for something that might help:

Heard of the same thing in Pitt Meadows this week, buy the sod farm
-
heard same about cap by hatchery
-
I no longer lock my vehile when fishing. Honest people will leave it alone and thieves will be thieves, would rather not have window broken

Same here. I try to leave nothing but my shoes in the fishing tote. I guess they can have the truck user manual and insurance papers too. Have been broken into twice within the last year - smashed window once, lock cylinder bashed in the next time.
-
Knock on wood I've been lucky.
Heard of thieves breaking in and taking insurance papers and garage door openers and robbing houses too.
-
That's quite common (garage door openers with address) I work in the security alarm industry and they are also breaking in just to push the built in garage door openers to read the RF signal with RFID readers getting address off of insurance and heading to the house. So if you get broken into and nothing seems to be missing, be concerned
-
ugh. Im sorry to hear that.
We had the group site booked over the weekend (17th- 20th) and I noticed all of the smashed glass in the day use parking lot :-\
I've been camping and fishing in that location since I was just a little kid and it seems to be getting worse and worse every year.
-
You part of the group playing music at 5 am. Must of been some party.
-
That really sucks. I'm just waiting for my turn to get broken into out there. After reading this thread I realized that my glove box and truck overall was in need of a good purge - and is back to empty now. Ill leave the glove box and elbow storage areas open in hopes the f**kheads will find another window to shatter.
What are you guys targeting out there at the moment? I've only fished there in the winter - one of my favourite places.
-
Side note - PHOTOCOPY your insurance papers with the ADDRESS BLANKED OUT!! Obviously, a garage door opener would be one of those 'leave at home when going fishing in a high break in area' type items, but none the less, no addresses in your glove box gives them no address to go to!
Same goes with receipts for car work, tires etc - leave them at home, they also have your address on them!

Is that sound advice? How would the boys in blue view blanked out address on insurance papers?
-
I do the same, ie. blanked out my name and address.

What do they ask for?......
"License and registration please."

I don't know what they ask for. I've never been pulled over 😀
Which documents provide proof of registration?

A wack of change in the console could be considered Trolling.

I just asked a RCMP Sgt. and was advised that it was perfectly OK, it's proof of vehicle insurance, not proof of address.
My ICBC Insurance Agent actually does it for me when I renew.....
-
Sounds good.
I was curious and had a look in the BC Motor Vehicle Act. I did find mention of not altering a license, but no mention of not altering insurance papers...
-
Actually, the last couple times I have been stopped they didn't bother asking for registration. I also keep a photocopy with blacked out address.

Some good info on garage door openers I saw today too:
Police in Langley are very concerned after two recent residential break and enters occurred while the residents slept.
Both instances occurred in the Willoughby area and entry was gained by using the garage door opener.
Here are some additional ideas to consider for your garage door…
•Many garage door openers are equipped with a ‘lock’ function on the control panel. You may want to consider locking the overhead door as you head into your home at night.
•Key Fob Garage Door Opening Remote – This option is available for less than $20 and is an easy way to NEVER leave your door opener in the car.
•Some of the newer garage door openers have a WiFi function that allows you to control the door with your Smartphone (ensure your WiFi is password protected).
•There is a product available equipped with a ‘timer-to-close’ feature to automatically close the garage door should you happen to forget.
Lastly, make sure you lock your inner door at night so if burglars do happen to get access to your garage, they likely won’t get any further.
Protect the ‘KEYS TO YOUR CASTLE – and the garage door opener is one of those keys….
-
Lol, so a locked door inside a garage where they have all the time in the world to do as they please without fear of being seen by neighbours, passing cars etc, is gonna prevent them from getting any further? Also they aren't just stealing openers the new vehicle have it built in you pair you on board unit to your garage doors RF code (much like how your shaw or Telus remote can control your tv) and they are using RF ID readers (25 bucks online) to read the code emitted when it's transmits... A lot of them aren't even breaking into cars now they simply sit in a residential area in the morning waiting for people to leave and close the overhead door behind them at which point they read the code transmitted and have full access to it anytime they please. Nothing will stop them if they truly want in but detecting them when they do (alarm system) is key.

You know there are these inventions which make sure the thieves cannot enter your home through garages?
They are called detached garages

Yup,we had one of them back in 1958. ::)

Clarki will come build one for you....
-
I had my trailer plate stolen at the Alouette trailer lot. Don't really know how to prevent that but you might take a glance back for yours before you leave there. Cops noticed mine was missing on my drive home.

Weld it...

Welding aluminum to steel is no small feat.

I don't think he quite appreciates you volunteering him, but that's not for me to decide
-
Oh, it was in Jest. With the densification in the populous areas, detached garages come with older homes or acreage. Not really a choice for many these days.

My neighbor puts the plates on with screws (not hex nuts) and puts epoxy into the Phillips head on the screw - nothing will completely stop a thief but making it more difficult will often deter them (from stealing your stuff at least).

Pretty easy to remove with a pair of pliers....
Maybe glue a bunch of screw heads to it making it look like it is insanely attached and not worth it.... Lol. The fact it is so marked up would deter them for sure...

;D you didn't notice that both clarki and myself (clarkii) commented on this thread did you?

My old car had screws missing so the ones I got from the store were weird, a flathead screwdrive was needed but it was designed in a way you could only tighten the screws with the flathead screwdriver, and too back them off you needed a special tool.

That's worth a shot. There will at least be easier plates on the lot to steal that way. Think I'll draw the line at welding it on. Thanks gents!

They do make license plate locks as well as security screws/bolts that sell for under $20 btw

It is always a good idea to lock the door that separates the garage and the residence as well.

Make sure you report to the local police so they can track it. If no one reports it, the police won't know that there is a problem in the area. If a lot of theft from vehicles are reported from an area, they may decide to set up on that area to catch the thieves.

A couple years back the car breakins got pretty bad at chehalis...particulariy between the times of 4am and 8am pretty consistantly. After one guys truck got broken into multiple times they (himself and a couple other fisherman) decided to take matters into thier own hands. They parked thier trucks at a spot where alot of the breakins were occuring and waited in the bushes.... You can probably figure out where this is going... Two dirtballs showed up and were attempting to break into a vehicle. Well those two guys got the crap kicked out of them pretty bad...actually really bad, within an inch of thier lives bad. Word got around in the dirtball car thief club pretty quick and the breakins pretty much stopped for a long while. Not saying that is the answer but it was pretty effective at greatly reducing the breakins. Cops really dont care about breakins on rivers anyways....harrison hot springs has like 4 rcmp officers or something like that. They arent going to station an officer at chehalis trying to stop thiefs... Ticketing people failing to stop at the 4 way in town generates much more revenue.
