Here are some pics from my spring bear hunt this year....

My buddy Nick and i spotted this big bore from the other side of the valley... we put on a very long stalk and finally took him down at about 100 yard from the upper road.

This one should be a record book bear. Still waiting the skull to dry for 60 days. The rough measure is just shy of 20 iches.

Good work guys. We are sure enjoying our venison as well. Sure beats having to eat meat from the stores, never know what they have been fed with these days growth hormones etc.. Also it why I never eat farm raised fish. I will have to dig up a picture of my buck but no where as big as the ones posted so far. ;D ;D

PS The ducks have been delicious as well, nothing like living off what the Lord as provided for us. Not wanting to provide a religious debate here. Leave the debates to flosssing or how the Leafs are a superior hockey team compared to the Canucks. ;D ;D ;D

Nice to see some hunting topics here. ;D

::) Uhuh! Leading to another 'discussion' of one fellow's interpretation of what's right, what's wrong, and who might be morally/ethically superiour?? It's a completely LEGAL pursuit Boozi. Doesn't mean you HAVE to partake, but PLEASE, try and keep the Holier Than Thou retorts to a dull roar. :-*

Here are some pics from out moose trip this fall.....

This moose got shot in about 15 min soon after we got to camp...  2 of my buddies went for a ride while i stay behind to set up camp.  They make one cow call and the bull run right into them.. Down goes the moose in about 30 yard.

This moose here, i called out on a big clear cut block.. It come charging at me to about 150 yard then he wind me; stright back to the timber. Thats happen at around 4:45pm. At around 6:00pm, my buddy went back to the same block but closer to the road this time. He heard the a bull grunt so he follow up with couple call, out goes this bad boy again... He shot him right at the spine and dropped him like a sack of sand right at the spot...

thats one heck of a blacktail nosey!! congrats!! the one i have in my pic at the start of the thread is one of the largest bodied blacktail I've seen where i hunt, decent enough antlers..... but that bad boy in your pic..... very nice. Big mulies are common enough but a big blacktail is so much more rewarding.... the ghosts of the coast as some call em.

Rodney.... let me know in advance if you are comin by my shop.... I'll be sure to have somethin in tha freezer for ya  ;D

mine are sure yummy  ;D i always fill my first 2 mulie tags in my blacktail spot, region 2 has a 2 deer bag limit. Last year i had them filled inside of 30 seconds hehe. I generally hunt way before the rut so bigger antlered/bodied bucks are more scarce, very challenging.
I hope to fill my remaining mulie tag before months end... we'll see. I have someone in clinton keeping tabs on a few big boys for me... i'll see if i can find the time.

Marco, I didn't know you were a hunter!

Nice photos... Anyone who eats meat should be okay with this... As a matter of fact, I have a great deal of respect for someone who brings down an animal, guts it and eats it... The proper connection to the food we eat. And it's free range too :) The only one I ever had a problem with was couger hunting... With dogs. We don't need to eat cougar.

mmmm venison... what does bear taste like?

Cheers,
nicole

As jetboatjim said, cougar's meat is one of the best meat that along in the wild game world.... Its white meat and very tender.   But the down side to it is you must tree them with dogs. or else, you have no chances to get a shot at the big Tom.

Thanks Tom. ;) The other two hunters in this thread have already promised venison a long time ago... ;) :P Starving here... :D

Bear steaks? Taste like lamb flavoured chewing gum. ;D They are rather muscular, and a rather strong gamey taste. Steelhead King brought some over for BBQ last year. I didn't mind, since I used to eat a lot of lamb back in Australia. In fact, I enjoyed it. The other ones were having a hard time chewing on it. ;D

I have some nice fishy ducks you could try. ;D You have to be a hunter to know what that means. ;D

Fishy ducks... :-X Are they plucked? ;D

Photos
There are hundreds, so it is hard to pick just a few, but here is an attempt. ;D

February usually means fishing with solitude. The icy bank, crisp air and freezing water plus the odd bull trout make it one of my favorite fisheries throughout the year.

In late March, we did a group trip to Kawkawa Lake for kokanee. The morning started with a lovely breakfast in Hope before heading out. This photo basically sums up the fishing action on that day. Although no kokanees were caught, the landlocked coho and good company kept us entertained.

In late April, Mark and I watched helplessly from our boat while Carlo demonstrated how to find those stillwater trout at Alta Lake. I snapped this photo while Shane was taking a photo of Carlo's fish. An action shot of a hero shot in progress.

In June, I had the opportunity to experience brown trout fishing in a couple of tiny Danish creeks. The fish aren't record breaking, but the atmosphere of this dry flyfishery makes it extremely enjoyable. The colour of the surroundings, the abundance of mayflies, the vocal birds and the odd aggressive cattles made it into a very exciting learning experience.

Our July St Mary's Lake smallmouth bass fishing trip was fantastic as usual. In fact, the fishing was better than previous years. We basically fished until we didn't want to hook another fish. The sunny weather also provided good lighting for photographs and videos.

In August, we finally did a trip with Iron Noggin/Matt on the WCVI. This is a photo of Nina's lingcod.

Our annual Thompson River trip was rather hot, the weather that is. On this day, the temperature reached the low 40s just outside of Kamloops. The fishing wasn't too bad, both Nina and I were able to connect with a few beautiful rainbow trout. Our trout photos are not as good compared to what Shane and Carlo were able to produce (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/fishing_photos/index.html).

As usual, we were able to enjoy a few good days of northern pikeminnow fishing near my house. On a light spinning rod, this underrated species can be a lot of fun.

Despite of the poor fall salmon season, we were still able to bag a few good photos in the last couple of months. Here is a photo of a bull trout that was milling around chum salmon redds. We found a school of them, most likely feeding on eggs.

Ross took this photo for me when we went out with Ken for sturgeon last month. It was the only sturgeon that I played on that day, but a very satisfying trip indeed as the videos turned out to be exactly what I wanted.

I have to agree with Rodney, it's kinda strange looking at these pics of deer / moose / bear etc. At my house in the Gulf Islands I feed fawns apples out my hands, have baby raccoons put their paws in my pockets and have seen my Dad tame the odd grouse. On the medium - rare, I mean rare occasion that I actually keep a fish, I don't give it any thought. So what's the difference? Poor fish ? Poor bear? Poor deer? All in the eye of the beholder I guess although I have never personally killed a deer / moose / mountain goat / etc. Maybe it's just the pics. My two cents ...

I'd have no problem killing an animal if I was going to eat it...so much better for you than the crap you buy at the supermarket.  Congrats guys those will feed you well!  I've had bear and didn't like it at all....but like any food I suspect its 90% preparation.

some guys are trophy hunters, the antler size or skull size... or will it make the record book..... I got no time for that crap. I hunt for meat and the thrill of fair chase, though i do appreciate the odd trophy, like the pics presented here. I see far more animals up close and personal that i do not shoot and they are a part of what makes a hunt rewarding.

I got a 300lb spring bear a few years ago up past Pemberton..the back straps were very tasty..but I had the rest made into sausage. Some of the best sausage I've ever had...I used to go to Wyoming for Antelope hunts...One really cool animal, also very good meat though some will say otherwise...Moose and Elk are by far my favorite though...Thing with game meat is it has no steroids, very little fat and is actually good for you... it tastes so much better IMHO..big joke is when someone offers you game meat it normally means they didn't take good care of it and it's gamey...

best part of doing what we do!!!

no pics guys forgot the camera, we had a great trip, 1 moose 2  4 by 4 bucks, and a black bear! WOOO! Those beasts on the first page wow, either ur damn lucky or got one hell of a spot. Spent 7 days hunting, i got the bear and a buck, my dad got a buck, and his hunting buddy other than me got a moose! We had fun! All shot with 300 weatherby mags. All one shot kills. Wont forget the camera in the spring for the spring bear hunt!

Best friend and his dad went to williams lake to there cabin, saw 16 bucks, shot two beasts, ones a 28 inch 4 by 4 and the other is a 24 inch 6 by 8 non typical, i was so jelous when they came back, there going up next week aswell, ur allowed two bucks a person in there area. They wont tell anyone its just too good! Mke shot a brown black bear this year.

No one got lucky with the draws, except mike. i got skunked for goat, sheep, grizzly, and elk. My dad got skunked on sheep, moose, elk. Mike got a goat draw but didn't have the time to go. His dad got skunked with a grzzly and elk draw, so we all got nothin! CAnt wait till june so i can look in the envelope and see what i didn't get again! ;D
