Post by: TrophyHunter on March 14, 2006, 01:49:33 PM
has anyone ever used the Sheffield Okuma centerpin reel??? looks like a great reel for a pretty good price... all the writeups seem good too... I am looking to buy a new centerpin and would appreciate any help...

I fish an old silex superba....works fantastic for me, but if I were going to buy a new one it would have to be the milner talisman also....it's fairly similar as far as I can tell to my silex....can't tell you anything about the okuma, sorry.

The Milner reels (Talisman and Kingfisher) are both made from solid aluminum stock. The Islander reel is an excellent reel but it does not have a cage which is my personal preference. The line sometimes comes off the side at the most inopportune time.

Hi thickrick, the sheffield use 2 german design bearing,it is pretty quiet and smooth, light weight too.is pretty good for that price, but is all depend how much you can buy it..But if you want a better name brand ,so you have to put more money out,you get what you pay for.Remember river politics

i own both a kingfisher and steelheader. my steelheader is very quiet not even louder than my kingfisher. I'd go with the islander just because i think its got a better feel as your drifting.
