How do you guys get your boats in the lake? Do you know someone that lets you launch?
-
Unfortunately not. The only place Jo Public can launch at this point is from the ruff launch into the mud bath on Shook Rd. I have been trying to get answers from Mission, who refer me to the GVRD, who don't return calls, on why there is no proper public boat launch on to Hatzic. If you go keep your eyes open, three quarters of the lake has no more than three feet of water. The north west sector is the only area where there is enough water to put a motor down.
The property owners around the lake are constantly cry about how the lake is filling in, and asking for tax dollars to have it dredged. I feel if the sport fishing community had reasonable access the property owners might get some of our sympathy and support.
My apologies if you find I am getting to political again.

I am right behind you on getting more public access to our waterways. Just like the whole Silvermere Lake thing. So where on Shook do you launch? Just before the entrance to the Hatzic community and under that bridge? Pain in the butt for a heavy boat like my Spratley.
-
yeah we launched at shook right before the bridge it was a gong show but so worth it we got a 6 a 4.12 a 5.9 and a 1.5 on saturday it was awesome

All bass? I wouldn't mind trying my hand at bass fishing! Is there any Crappies left in that lake? I used to catch them in there all the time quite a few years back... along with the odd bullhead and pikeminnow.

So what are people catching in there right now, mainly bass? What do you guys use for them? I'm looking to head out somewhere this weekend, maybe the old fishing grounds would be worth a try :-\

I'll be using flies.
-
Minnow patterns. Tried Wooly Bugger and leach patterns, not a touch. Crappies will be after Chironomid, & Caddis there was a good hatch of them happening while I was there.
-
So can you launch a boat thats towed by a car or do you need a truck?
-
Truck.

I'm a lake front resident there and can say that there are a lot of people who do not like people launching there boats from road ways and they have been known to get the police involved, just a word of caution. I would recommend right now that you fish buy the outlet near the hwy people have been doing real good there recently. or try across the rail tracks in the slough. There's also not a lot happening right now with the water being really low and that we still need warmer weather to get into good numbers of bass, although a few nice ones have been pulled.
-
So we can launch from your place then ;D

Just curious. Is it a private road?
-
Is it possible to put in at Neilson Regional Park?

I never even knew about that park. You learn something new everyday.
-
Neilson Regional Park is really the only public area on the whole lake. Although there isn't a public launch, well I think there's a gate that blocks you and you will need to carry your boat in from the gate to the water. There are some private roads on hatzic island I know but there's also not many launching spots there too. The road into sheltered cove community (Sward rd) is a private and there is no public launch or parking. Some of the people around sward are cranky and will do things to your vehicle or just call the cops cause the signs saying Private beach and no trespassing are in clear view. The easiest place to put a float tube in would be down at the highway bridge where you can park and it's a breeze putting it in the water. If you go straight north from there and fish along the channel under peoples docks you might get lucky.
happy fishing

I think that is a very helpful, and respectful, "no" ;)

Thank you kindly for your help.

I drive by that lake quite often and almost always see people fishing the outlet. What are they generally fishing for? Bass, crappie, or other? Also any trout in the lake?
-
Crappie, Carp, and Catfish.
-
Crappie, Carp, and Catfish.
how big do the carp and catfish get in there. Is it worth targeting them.
-
there are some hugeeeeeeeeeeeee crap in there i didnt know there are cat fish lol
-

Thats because they are not real catfish. Just brown bullheads.
-
Actually brown bullhead is in fact in the catfish family, not the sculpin family that other commonly known "bullhead" species are in.

Your right Rod. I just didnt want people to think that if they target these fish that they would be targeting large cats like they would see on the fishing shows back east or down south. These fish are small rarely over a pound. Seen a few bigger than that but not much.
-
see in ontario those are called barbuts and taste so damn good lol
hey brian im going out to hatzic on sunday you want meet up with us

Get some pics of your catch for us! ;)

Targeting anything other then crappie in this lake is a waste of time for the amount of effort involved, if your lucky you might pull in a nice fat bass on a really good day. I think a bad day of on a trout lake beats a good day of carping any day, but there's a time and place for everything i guess.
-
steeleagle you ever caught a carp on a fly rod?
