i used some pro cured roe from freds for the first time today. i did the eggloop thing and a little styrofoaombeed, but ihad trouble making it stay on my hook. as soon as i touched it it almost was melting and getting really soft. any advice or tricks ? are small spawnsacks just as effective ? thanks harry

You can try hooking the skein onto your hook then putting the egg loop around the roe.
-
Try doing more wraps when you tie your hooks, like 15 or so.

Yeah thats the problem with roe. Not sure if this works.. Im going to give it a try, but if you cure your own roe, use red jello powder.. makes them rubbery. try out the spawn sacs too

if you have any left just let it sit out for a couple of hours on paper towels and put in borax. should toughen it up. Or if you dont want to go through the hassle just tie roe bags.

Freds roe is cupcakes, but thats there whole intention. The faster people go through it, the quick they will be back in the store to buy more....

Totally agree. When Im out of roe Id rather buy it from the yellow barn because they sell berrys roe which is better. Freds is garbage

You can try using spider thread, a couple wraps will help any bait stay on the hook longer
-
Try drying it out a little. Sounds like its too soft.

Do you put borax on it while it dries?

Yes, that will work. Depending how firm you want your roe 12-24hr drying process
