Title: Twas the night before sockfest
Post by: Dynamite kid on July 22, 2004, 08:07:53 PM
Twas the night before sockfest and all over the land,
All were preparing 20 ft leaders by hand.

From scale bar to grassy and all in between,
not a sockeye was jumping none had been seen.

The Springs had been creamed for over 10 weeks ,
most of them caught outside of their cheeks.

The tackle shops were packed, lines outside of their doors,
they were like some crazed bunch of gear selling wh@res

When all of a sudden a noise from afar,
it sounded as if it was from Maple leaf bar

There were screams and yells and a glong- glong- glong, glong,
and it wasn't the sound of the flossing crowd gong.

You could hear the voices of Max,Lew and Chris,
they were speaking in whispers something was amiss

Of in the distance at the end of the bar
Dk and Doc Spin had caught 4 sockeye so far

There is something strange about this whole story,
they were caught with bar rods, tell you how,I'm so sorry.

Bent Rods and be safe  ;)

Poor Sockeye tomorrow hell begins for them  :'( Why does everyone come out from hiding all of a sudden at once for the socks? Do not many people fish for springs? I've always been puzzled by a bar that can average 3-5 people and the next day be home to 200 people when the socks open.

Because the numbers arent the same as sockeye. The Sockeye fishery doesnt take any talent or much time put in to get the meat. Unlike Chinook when the number of fish in the system is lower and often it takes alot more time to get rewarded. Plus the fact of lower anglers when Chinook are running is because they don't have a designated temporary opening of a couple of weeks like the Sockeye and there is plenty of time to fish for them. When only Chinook are running most people will be fishing on weekends. But in late July to August it's holiday season and alot more people will also be off work. IMHO

Great story Rod. 8)

I have a feeling today was the busiest day for sales of the year for Lower Mainland tackle shops. ;)
