Title: Neoprene waders - what do you wear underneath ?
Post by: WestEast on March 15, 2005, 11:52:17 AM: So I got my first pair of chest waders to go with my new Fish Cat 4. Dumb question.... besides the Jockeys (or Zellers-Hanes if you are married like me!) what does one wear before pulling on the neoprenes ?? Thermals ? regular pants ? jeans ? Nothing ? ???

Good question, as comfort is important. I personally like to have a pair of MEC fleece pants underneath during winter. They can be a bit too thick if the weather is warm. In May, June, September, I just wear a pair of shorts underneath. In July and August, we stop using neoprenes now.... Did that a couple of times few years back, what a nightmare.... :o

Whatever you wear you gotta tuck the bottoms into your socks so your pant legs don't ride up when you put your waders on. The long pants keep your skin off the neoprene and greatly reduce the chance for sweating. Personally I stopped wearing neoprene and just use my breathables all year long.

Oh gross! You actually eat KFC??!! ;D Nina gets a KFC craving once a year and goes to buy a chicken wrap. After one wrap, she's repelled from KFC for twelve months until the next craving.

Post by: reach on March 16, 2005, 09:32:20 PM: I wear whatever pants I've got on - jeans or sweats. I put on an extra pair of thick winter socks over top and tuck my jeans into them. I'm usually pretty comfortable and no man gravy so far. :P

Haven't tried this in warm weather yet but I hope to have breathables by then anyway.

I tried to wear polypropylen lj's but I had a tough time keeping them from pulling up my legs as I put them on. However, when I did get the poly p's on right it was far more comfortable. my .02 worth
