ANY 1 KNOW which brand of battery is best? mostly for lake , minn kota 30 used for.
I see some marine battery is around 60$ in craglist are the trustable?
-
It is so easy to damage a battery. for example .... keep it on cement floor and you are done in a moth or two. Saying that i would not trust any
used battery from CL. Specially with the price like 60.00. Also avoid Canadian Tyre Nautilus type battery. i had a couple over the years and they don't last. Try costco maybe.
-
Costco all the way. Inexpensive, good quality and an unbeatable return policy for peace of mind. I didn't find my Nautilus (CDN Tire) to be very good, so I personally would steer clear of them.

No . Go buy a new marine battery and a charger.
-
you don't need a "marine" battery. Just get a Group 27 or 29 Deep Cycle and your good to go. Trolled all day with my group 27 using my 55lb thrust pushing my 1436 boat

Went to Costco a month ago to exchange my deep cycle because I ran into issues with holding the charge .They said they didn't carry them anymore (Langley Costco ) . They did a search for other Costco's in the lower mainland and found the one location in Coquitlam ? that had a couple left . I ended going to Wallmart . So far so good .

what brand and type of deep cycle battery is good and inexpensive in cosco or walmart. Will lorco carry it and is the price the same?I only use it on a minn kota 30 and use in a small lake. And do i need to buy a battery box to prevent water splash onto the battery for safty or i can just hook up a battery without a box.
Thank you

Try Edmonds Batterie, I have bought group 27, 6volt deep cycles for my RV, motorcycle batteries and accessories there and they have been good, I go to the one on King George..

EverStart Marine Battery 27DC-850N
$111.97
Wallmart

Costco marine batteries are seasonal. I picked up the last one couple of weeks ago from the downtown location for $89. I think they said they will bring it back for spring season. i have the same motor and it lasted a little over a day and still had some juice left. i think they're good batteries and great return policy if anything goes wrong.

I already recommended him this battery on a diff thread. Now go and buy one. No point risking buying a used battery. Might save a few bucks but might also strand you out on a lake.
Dont worry about leaving the battery on cement, battery case materials nowadays are fine. Charge it everymonth or so when not in use and youll be golden.

Remember that's heavy battery in an inflatable lugging around!
Plus how long you trolling minn k recommends 60ah which you don't need.
Don't forget you gotta charge it too..heavy.
Unless the boat is aluminum on a trailer.
I find with some lakes don't have ramp so you have to carry everything.
Lithium ion$$$
Try to get 35-50ah under 20lbs. Gel enclosed. Or 2 small batteries in series much lighter.
I use on big and small the smaller to inflate boat then add in series for more time trolling.
Others even use solar panels as add on.

You will need a deep cycle or dual purpose as the motor can draw a lot of energy, and bring the battery down to a voltage that is unsafe for regular battery's.
Also purchase a battery box. Canadian Tire and Lordco should have them for cheap, this prevents the battery from Damage.
We have them for ~120, Made by Deka Battery apart of East Penn. Any East Penn dealer in canada or us will give you a replacement within 1 year if it's faulty.
-
You could also go the gel battery route, lighter but cannot provide as much power.

You have to be very careful choosing a battery for an inflatable boat.
Any acid spill from the battery will put a hole in the boat (you could use a battery case).
Get a spill-proof battery - perhaps a smaller motorcycle 12v that is not too heavy for the boat. Won't last as long but it will be easy to carry and manage in the boat.
You want a "deep-cycle" battery - not just a "marine" battery.
Marine batteries provide deep cycle but they are also designed to provide cranking power (which you don't need).
Interstate makes a good battery:

Edmonds batteries carries them I think:

Hi easywater. Thank you for your info. The interstate battery you showed me is a good deal, how long can they run for minn kota 30?
-
The cement floor cannot hurt the battery but a leaking battery can make a mess of the floor.

my friend that is a very heavy battery in your inflatable
i suggest a gel battery from a wheelchair or old person scooter
very light and has power (deep cycle) or granny would be stuck on the street
northern batteries ub12350 more than enough, i ran it full power minn kota 30lbs for 2hours straight and used a third of battery as per the minn kotta battery tester.
in my setup I use 2 gels, one 35ah and the other 20ah. I use the 20 to power also my air pump because I use to pump the boat by the car it needs the dc plug but I can't always get the car by the water. 35 and a 20 is total 30lbs one 35 is 20lbs which is so much lighter than the marine types. More power more weight.
You can buy these batteries any battery specialty place lots of nursing homes toss these.
Charge them after ever use I have been using mine for 3 years I bought brand new, never leaks very safe has a carrying strap/PORTABILITY.
