Has anyone gone lately? I know there are lots fishing in the river....
-
Gonna head there tonight and chuck some spoons. Guess I'll be the first one to report... :P
-
I was fishing the cap for the first time this year today. I manage to get one coho. It was raining but still a good day. I was in non tidal area.
On a side note: I went by the Keith Rd / hwy#1 bridge around 8pm and saw around 10 emergency vehicles parked under the bridge including police, firefighter, and ambulances. Also the right lane of the hwy bridge was blocked by a police car and polices looking down the river. Does anyone know what happen? I hope nothing bad happen. I was there earlier in the day and saw the river way too high to cross so I went elsewhere. However, I did see some fishermen down there.

Beautiful day on the water though.

Any report Jewelz? Hoping to fish the capilano next week sometime. It'll be my first time there. Planning to bring both spinning rod and 5 wt flyrod (is that enough flyrod?)
-
I was there on Sunday, nothing for me, but another guy that was there did wrestle with one, but lost it in the end.

Not sure if i would go with any less than a 7/8
-
Having said that I have landed a 29lbs spring on a 7ft spinning rod with 6lbs test on a spinning reel with a lead jig
-
5wt is enough for tiny hatchery Coho.
-
I believe the original question was: How's the Fishing at the mouth of the Cap!!!!!
-
Gonna try tomorrow evening again. Let y'all know how it is.
-
Where at the mouth is it ok to fish being a non native?
-
Where at the mouth is it ok to fish being a non native?
On the west side and down stream of the train bridge.

Also on the tiny salt islands that are only exposed during very low tide. That's where I have seen the most fish caught.
-
Where are these islands? Do I just walk out towards the bay during low tide?
-
It's by the navigation lights and is accessible only at low tide unless you have a boat. Be cognizant of the incoming tide. It's easy to get stranded
-
thanks for the info jewelz, spoonfed and others. 29 lbs on 6lb spinning - nice work! I've got that setup too, if I can't get a rise with the fly rod! I've got plenty of flies for rainbow and some some spoons and spinners in the box for spinning - do you have favorite fly and tackle shop?
-
Well it'll be high tide when I go tonight, so I'll just be chucking spoons and spinners towards the bay. I'll let yall know.
-
so you guys actually fish below the train bride on the side where the trail is? i was there today, just above it it, did get anything :(
-
On the west side and down stream of the train bridge.
Downstream of the train bridge is salt though, right? So you need a tidal license to fish below that line?
I guess above the train bridge is off limits? Or not worth fishing because there are no pools?
-
Yes, below the train bridge is the salt chuck.
-
Was there tonight around 8 to 9:30. Had one on the line but broke off just about 15 feet in front of me. Super high tide, people passing by kept talking about how high it was....

Chucking a fly is very difficult there - the wind is blowing in your face the whole time.
The best time is first light on a low low-tide.
July 12th is the next decent time for that.
June 12th looked great.
Spinners with red beads are always good.
-
I'm gonna try tomorrow morning during low tide.
Another question, I don't have a stamp for salmon so I have to release, but when I do get it, can I keep the wild coho's or just the hatchery ones?
-
Don't take somebody's word for it, make sure you stop at a shop and get a copy of the tidal salmon regs if you're fishing below the train bridge before you bonk anything!
-
Hatchery ones only, read the regs. >:(

No need to get angry :P. Simple question, simple answer. If I don't know, then they all go back. No worries.

Actually Jewelz, there is a reason to get angry. No one should be fishing without reading the regulations first. You cannot ask a question like that on here. If someone says, "you can keep wild coho too," then what? This forum is the place to ask a clarification question, where you do not understand what the regulation is.
In this case there is no such ambiguity:
"FN0448-RECREATIONAL - Salmon: Strait of Georgia, Howe Sound and Juan De Fuca - Areas 14 to 20, 28 & 29 - Coho Fishing Times and Limits
Subareas 28-1 to 28-7 and 28-9 (Capilano Mouth)
-----------------------------------------------------
Effective immediately until 23:59 hours March 31, 2013, you may retain two (2)
hatchery marked Coho per day."
-
There's nothing wrong with asking. I rather have new anglers asking "stupid" questions than making the mistakes out there on their own, that's why we have this forum in the first place. More experienced anglers should always have some tolerance as "stupid" and "ignorant" questions will continue to pop up as long as this forum lives. With that being said, Sandman sums it up quite nicely. There is a risk in asking the general public about regulations, you may get the wrong answer and end up committing a fishery violation even though your intention is good. This is why I usually post a link to the fishery regulation that is being questions instead of answering it directly, in case I interpret the regulations wrongly, which I sometimes do.

so did you get out and chuck some spoons ?
-
Thanks guys :)! I checked the regs, and after a few looks, I finally found it. Kinda had to make sure I got the right sub area.
I was planning on going out on Sunday morning, but decided to sleep in! Just can't pass up on those mornings where I don't have to get up with the kids!
-
I'll be taking a swing in the morning 6/27. Can't do dawn :D will get there when I can and fish while I can! looks like water level is ~3 ft using the kayak club gauge.
tight lines!
