Hi all,
This is something that has always intrigued me: tinkering and improving things. With all your years of knowledge and experience, what are some things about the fishing world that you would like to see improved?
Alternatively, what is a product that you would like to see on the market, but don't?
-
How about DNE come up with a simple but bulletproof way to incorporate float stops into their bobbers so I can quit carrying around these dam toothpicks
-
How about fish seeking terminal tackle?
-
On breathable waders, neoprene that doesn't leak after 7 days, also way more abrasion resistance legs and crotch seams
-
Fishing line spool new with abrasion.
Good lures with crappy hooks.
A fishing rod with the porcelaine falling out of an eyelit.
Leaking waders
Dead worms in a new pack
A float that wont go under.
A product i would like to see more available...invisable fishing weights.

;D ;D ;D

High vis floating mono that doesnt cost 40-50$ per 150 yds

Try top shelf floats. Pricey, but they have that exact thing. I've been using them lately, and really like them!

2 mm neoprene wading socks slid over your feet before your boots go on will fix that forever.

Have you tried Raven line? I've had great success with it. Floats high, is strong, fairly abrasion resistant, comes in a bunch of colours, and is very thin for its lb rating! It's inexpensive too!

They could build bulletproof waders but they won't because they wouldn't be selling as many waders when people need to replace them. Kind of like household appliances.

A High End 4 piece 10'6 baitcasting rod.
-
Good lures with crappy hooks.
This is pretty much the only problem I have with Gibbs lures.

I suspect the reason is more that it would be far more expensive and would compromise greatly on the usability (ie weight, stiffness, breathability, etc). Planned obsolescence probably doesn't even factor into it as if one company made a significantly more durable wader at a competitive price, it would be a huge selling point over all other companies. Someone out there would do it if they could.

I like this idea. Or even a 3 piece would be nice. You see multi-piece fly rods all the time. Do it as a line of blanks for custom builders, and I'd buy it.

That burns me too , nothing worse than spending $ and have throw part of it away

Check out some of the r&b products. I found the lures and hooks to be good quality. The copper 2/5 seemed to work particularly well this year.

x3 on those croc hooks.....my dentist scrapes my teeth with harder metal.
I have come to realize that based on the type of fishing I do, all my waders will leak. Ichave have a garage full for Simms waders with the feet cut out for boat pants...
Guides that don't freeze...Amen
-
Hammer. Agree that's the price of being a river fisherman,---, pebbles,,wetness, BlackBerry bushes,,branches snags etc all wreak havoc on breathables,,,why I pay the utmost least when I buy them. 2 years and they be done, good idea for boat pants

"A float that won't go under "
What would be its purpose?

R&B Copper was awesome this year

Lol he’s saying that his are defective because “they won’t go under” (ie no fish underneath)

Hmmmm, thanks Dan, I’ll maybe purchase a couple of these to try in the future, however it IS hard to justify spending $ on floats when, like Chris I spend a little extra time most days I fish going float collecting. Haven’t bought floats in a long time!

What is a fishing tackle/equip design flaw that I would like to see improved?
The angler. It is quite an old model and it came with a lot of design flaws.
Would be nice if it could be overhauled. :P

I'd like to try an invisible hook 😁

I'd like to see an electric motor with an easily removed tiller for transporting.
Also may sound like sacrilege to some, but a quality centerpin reel with an adjustable drag.

They’re called mooching reels

My Harkely and Heywood 'Avon' (bronze) has a drag on, that I never use.

How about a suitable non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and cost effective substitute for lead-containing fishing products (e.g. weights). I heard that tungsten may be an alternative, but I've yet to see any in the stores. One problem is that tungsten is not as malleable as lead. Gold is malleable, but not very cost effective to use as a weight. LOL. Any ideas out there???

Copper works, but it is harder to work with (work hardens easily).

Lures with ready-to-use single barbless hooks so that there's no extra step for the angler to crimp the barbs or take out the treble hooks :P
-
This is a huge pet peeve of mine why do lures need to come with bard hooks. Why are jigs that are made locally to be fished locally have barbed hooks
-
Different regulations in areas. May not be made locally. Or to make sure more marketable in other areas. Easy to pinch a barb. Or cut off a treble and put on a siwash.

canadafishingreels.com have just that

yes this would be a good improvement.

Didn’t realize that float stops are so hard to put on! :o
