I am sick of guessing how big some fish are!! Does anyone know the formula to find out how big a steelhead would be if one had the measurements?? (the length and girth) I was able to land a monster a while ago, I got the measurements, but I have never been able to figure out the actual weight. Just been guessing since!! Wouldn't mind knowing!! Thanks if anyone knows!! ;) ;D

The formula I use is Length x girth2 x 1.54 divided by 1000. Another common formula is Length x Girth2 divided by 775.

girth2??? might sound stupid, but what does this mean!!
I must be doing something wrong with the girth2 thing, because I am getting 2.75!!! ;D ;D

girth in inches squared . If your steelhead has a lenght of 36" and a girth of 15". Calculation will be 36 x 15 x15 x 1.54 divided by 1,000 = approx. 12 1/2 lbs.
Girth is the circumference of the fish. Usually measured around the dorsal fin

The way some of you guys handle fish I say the less handling and measuring the better. Keep the fish in the water as much as possilbe and if you have to get a picture lift it out six inches snap a pic and then back into the water not this take a picture of the fish grasping for breath, up on the beach covered in sand garbage.

From all the pictures I've seen here, the ones on the beach aren't gasping - they're dead. ::) The live ones have been well treated from what I've seen in the pics, and I don't think your generalization applies to this crowd.
