Theres a place called Honjins at the Yale Town end of Davie St. which is not bad. Its actually Japanese owned and is across from the Urban Fair.
I think they have what Rod mentioned plus miragai and other things.
Damn, now I'm getting hungry :P

Aji shouldn't be too hard to find... I've seen it before, can't remember where...
Madai... I doubt you'll see it here. If you do, it would be awfully expensive. ;)

We used to catch them (snappers) in Australia, big ones too.
used to catch kanpachi in Australia too. I actually prefer to catch those than salmon. ;) Once you try it, you'll know why.

I cant say this with enough enthusiasm...
there is a little sushi shop on 16th just west of main street in vancouver. Its called toshi sushi. Toshi, the owner, used to own sushi village up at whistler, hes a world renowned chef. He opened Toshi Sushi thinking it would be a nice , small , relaxing way to retire, i think, but hes busy every day, for good reason. Its affordable and the dishes Ive had there taste just as good as what you get at Tojos....you wont find maguro gomazuke anywhere that even comes close!
Plus, toshi is a really nice guy.

toshi's is a nice little joint, but the owner himself is not a sushi chef. he's more known for his kitchen dishes, which are amazing. the nasuden and agedashi tofu are freakishly good. the sushi, is at best average. hiroshi's sushi creations on 22nd and oak is more creative and tasy in my opinion. tojo's..c'mon. the guy is untouchable...., expensive but worth it. he's sponsored by kumai harvest rice (the premier japanese rice) and mac knives, that alone speaks volumes of his sushiness.

Try Yoshi Yoshi. Extrememly expensive, but its worth it. It's so good.
