Hey, i want to start saltwater shore fishing (since i dont have a boat) Im going for rockfish,flatfish,fluke etc anything that i can eat. Im probably using bait since i have a bigger rod and a reel I have the right rod and reel but dont know about rigs and baits for saltwater pier fishing. Please tell me some really good baits in piers and shores and some good bottom rigs. Thanks.

It's difficult to make suggestions without knowing where you are. In the Lower Mainland, Jericho Beach, Ambleside, Port Moody, White Rock all have piers where you can fish from.

Please note what you can retain and how many, especially rockfish and lingcod because fishing for them is closed in most waters.

Oh ok! Then not rockfish. Anyways, im probably going to White Rock pier because im going crab fishing too.

line, small sinker (i use the sliding kind), swivel (large enough to stop sinker/slider), 24" of leader, baited hook.  Cast it out and hop it back, let it sit every two or three hops for a while.  You can use prawn for bait, or strips of raw fish.  Sea worm and pile worm are also good baits.. don't go too small with your hooks, flounder (what you'll get most of) have large mouths for their size.

Also, buy a herring jig as there is a very good chance that you would encounter herring during this time of the year. Simply cast the jig out and slowly retrieve with jigging motions at times.

Do we have any squid around vancouver ? They sell squid jigs at army and navy , they have squid in seattle .

Belcarra is a nice/good place to fish in the warmer months. gotta get there early though if you want to find a spot on the dock though...

Reallly? I went to Belcarra and never did fishing though.. Full of people crabbing probably hard to find a spot. Also i've never seen people catch any fluke or flounder i saw someone catch a dogfish but no flounder. Is there any?

Yes there are alot, but I have found that they are pretty small.

I have caught many. All I used was a sliding weight, barrel swivel, leader, hook. You may use what ever bait. I personally use shrimp and chicken.

for belcarra worms work best, and from the dock alone, i have caught flounder up to 18 inches. just put on a large weight and cast out as far as u can good luck, cheers.

Yes, try to dig up rag worms in the mud. They work well, but they look disgusting.
