The Steelhead Society of B.C. is currently working on some signage which we hope to have erected along the shores of the Fraser (to start with) in time for the anticipated summer and fall openings. It is our goal to have on the sign basic identification information for anglers to familiarize themselves with at the river.

Although most anglers can identify the difference between the fish they are catching, it is no secret that certain endangered runs of wild fish (Summer run Steelhead and Interior Fraser Coho) are being by-caught by sports fishermen targeting other abundant runs, and, due primarily to their lack in ability to tell the difference between the different species, are accidentally being killed; mistaken for other retainable species.

We believe that by implementing sings in key locations that we can help reduce unnecessary kill of these highly prized, at risk stocks.

However, among the plethora of Steelhead pictures online, there are no 'fisheries-style' images to spec that we can use for our proposed signage. Although we have some for Chinook, Chum, Coho, Pink, and Sockeye, we do not have any of the most important fish - Steelhead!

As we know many of you are still catching Steelhead; it would be great if you could help us out with this relatively simple task.
If you wish to help out, please take a picture following the below criteria. If your photo meets the requirements and is selected for our signage, you will receive a complimentary SSBC hat in the color of your choice! More than one winner is possible.

Photo requirements:

- Digital Copy, in the highest resolution possible [the larger the file the better; it is going to be blown up]
- Fish must be facing left
- With full view of the side of the fish, including fins
- With panned out view of the tail; showing it's wide breadth and spots
- Taken on a plain white background [or cut out so as to be on a plain white background] ***Very Crucial***
- Fish must be clean, i.e. not covered in blood neither/nor gills protruding from gillplate
- Fish must not be in full spawning colors - a little color is okay, does not need to be bullet chrome
- Must be a photo of the fish only - please no hands, rocks, leaves, twigs, fishing rods etc.
- Can be hatchery or wild

Here is a sample of the kind of photo we are looking for: http://www.nwcouncil.org/history/images/salmonchart.jpg

Send fish photos to: steelheadpics@hotmail.com   include your name and phone number in the email. You will only be contacted if you were selected as the winner.

Thank you for helping protect the future of wild fish!

[SIDE-NOTE: We appreciate the fact that summer/fall Fraser fisheries are ethically sensitive subjects, but ask that you keep your thoughts on this matter to yourselves in this thread.]
