that sockeye dumping picture reminds me of the old paintings I saw as kid of western plains filled with rotting Buffalo carcasses shot for their skins by europeans.

The first thing that jumps out in my mind is were are the net marks??? those are pretty crappy photos, but in the one close up doesnt really show any distinct net marks (IMHO).
Love to know where the pi was taken.

:'( :'( :'( a shame you would never see a rec fisherman do this we eat our salmon.this is what happens when dfo lets the natives get greedy :'( :'( :'(
-
I wonder if any attempt was made to hide these fish; otherwise whoever did this didn't mind sticking 'em right in our faces. The implications are revealing and sad. Perhaps they were used in a ceremony of some kind adapted to the 21st century.

maybe these photos should be forwarded to Mr. Regan at DFO. title it food fishery.

After some corresponding back and forth, the DFO lab in Chilliwack has sent a staff down there to collect DNA samples. Initial thoughts are those fish are not Cultus Lake fish, due to their size and colour. This is the second sockeye dumps being reported recently. I'll post an update when results are available.

With a drift net you won't get the same net marks a a set net. The fish don't stay in the water long enough to leave deep marks. Marks or no marks, there is no conclusion who dumped the fish. Regardless, it is a reckless treatment of a species who's survival depend on strong numbers reaching their natal streams.
