fishing and meditating
« on: November 16, 2004, 06:48:59 PM »

I was just reading something I wrote some time ago and came across this sentence:

"People who are fishing but not having any luck are either just about ready to give it up, or they are meditating."

Does this ring true for any of you?

Fishing at times is certainly meditative. I find for myself that there are periods where my focus and intensity are at a full 100% and other times I will be much more relaxed and watching mother nature almost as much as my float. Like I read just a couple of seconds ago on this site, Stress kills so when I find myself surrounded by the beauty God gave us I always tell myself to relax, take some nice long deep breathes and enjoy it. ;)

If "meditating" is the same as taking in your surroundings, then I guess most poeple not catching much, but still enjoying it, are meditating.

I agree with NF, you always get bites when you least expect it, gives new meaning to "expect the unexpected." It seems to happen a lot to me when I'm fishing in silence (of conversation), then dad will yell something to me (usually about not catching anything), then I get a hit and don't react in time. It also seems to happen a lot if you leave your gear in the water and go to to the "wash-room" over the side of the boat. A buddy of mine (female) had a double header occur while doing this, and couldn't do anything but watch, then charged for the rods.

Strange stuff happens when your fishing...

Yeah NiceFish...that's when the float gets buried.

How many times do you look back from idly watching birds or chicks on the dyke (before I was married) and cant find your float?

Lovin it! :D

Since when was snagging just a question of ethics and personal choice?

Way it works with me is the fishing kind of gets put on automatic, doesn't matter if it's still (bar?) fishing or working a spot with a fly. . . . .

Then I realize I've been sorting something out upstairs for a while.

Then I probably check my bait or dab that fly right over there, and pretty quick I'm sorting things out in my head again.  On and on . . .

i usually take in the scenery when i'm not having any luck. i would take 5, sit on a rock and have a good look around and maybe see something i didn't notice before.  as for 'chicks on dykes', nice to see but costs me too much money  ;)  :P

Fishing or meditating.  Aren't they the same thing?
