Wading Boots

Just wondering how many seasons some of you get out of wading boots?

I walk over on the inside of my foot and seem to go thru boots every 1-1.5 seasons (seems end up busting).  I am out once a week too.  I don't know what PT is doing to get 5 years outta his boots but it can't be much walkin!

I am just about due for a new pair, and they are just under a year old.  But I do fish a couple times a week (in a good week  ;D) when I can and last time I ended up walking 14 km.

Don't hate me cause I get to fish so much   ;)

it also depends on how much abuse you put your boots through.  if you constantly bang and scrape your boots against rocks and boulders or drag them through gravel (unnecessarily),  it will obviously take a toll on the seams.   if you don't air dry them right away or just forget to take them out of the bag after use, mold or mildew can form and weaken the leather.

it's also true, that you get what you pay for.

My first two pair of wading boots were Hodgeman and both fell apart within about a year's time. I've sworn to never buy Hodgeman products again (although I will probably cave if I ever get a skookum good deal) My third pair has been a pair of Redballs that have lasted 7 or so years being used about 20-30 times/year in fresh and salt. Only this year are they starting to show their age.

Given that I do less wading and more hiking and bushwacking in my waders, felt soled wading boots are uneccesary. A couple of years ago I had the cobbler remove my well worn felt soles and attach rubber treads and have been pleased with the result. I'm seriously considering having my next pair of wading boots be a relatively inexpensive pair of hiking boots.

My cheap Hodgemans lasted 5 years including 2 refelting jobs. When they finally fell apart went with Chota WW400 (also cheap but look better) and with a truckload of shoo-goo hope to get a second year out of them. I will go back to Hodgemans next time.

My last par was a choda too...didnt like em, the re enforced seem at the heel has popped and the fake leather has cracked right on the top of my foot were a crease forms when I walk.

I also have weak ankles and I am prone to rolled them...I think my next pair will be the simms (fortunately I got a big commision check coming).
