Lead wieghts to be banned
« on: November 12, 2004, 05:56:47 PM »

Today I was talking to a couple of guys and they were saying that lead is to banned in the 2005/06 season. Has anybody else heard this. This is the first iv'e heard it but can understand if it did happen. Sure would change things like jigs and perhaps bottom bouncing. I wonder how much lead is in the rivers already.

I believe that's only half the message. To the best of my knowledge they are banning lead under a certain size to prevent waterfoul from ingesting it. No need to stock up on bouncing betties.

That would be to sensible to be true wouldn't  it.  Yet would be alot better than hauling around steel balls or cement.

Lead isn't all that's going to be banned...

It seems that anything with a certain percentage of "toxic material", that is less than 50 gramms and less than 2 cm wide, it is banned.

This ban is on all tackle, spoons, weights, spinners, etc.

and this is not only fresh water, you won't be able to use it in the salt either.

Although I don't know when tha ban goes into effect.

There's something on it in the latest BC oudoors.

LMAO!
You Guys believe anything/drink each others bathwater all the time.
There will be no change to regular fishing tackle-any assertion to the contrary is just the same bunch of  old redneck crybabies crying in each other's beer.
BC Outdooors stopped being a reliable source of any info about the time the internet came along.

how many pounds of lead is already in the vedder do you guys think? too much i think so this little thing about banning lead weights doesn't seem that far fetched at all. it may not happen this year but what about  the next year and after. environmentalists love this cupcakes as it gives them more exposure and leads to public outcry. once again on the backs of sportfisherman. i short float all the time as it is the most successful to me.

Lead belly.....Sam Salmon has been a bad boy here for a long time!

Gezz..no more led....well, I better go and lose it all bottom bouncing,. because I have about 50 lbs worth in the basement that my step dad made before he passed away!

seriously though....if they can't enforce all the other crap, how do they honestly expect they are going to enforce that!

Hey Sammy, I worked for a Chinese tackle manufacturer for a while and during my time there I had a fair ammount of contact with several owners of local manufacturing companies.

I don't know if the name Syd Pallister means anything to you but he and I had this very conversation about 6 months ago.  I can't remember his title, uh I think its president (of Gibbs Tackle).  Any how, he and I discussed how the lead ban in the US is adding ammunition to our Feds following suite.  The way he was talking, 2006 wouldn't be outta the question for this initiative.
