Here are the volunteer positions currently available within KEEPS. Also, remember that there are volunteer opportunities associated with the vast majority of activities that are depicted on our website.

Fall fish fence assistance

The Bell-Irving Hatchery and KEEPS are seeking interested volunteers with their own transportation to assist with salmon broodstock collection in the fall and early winter of 2005. The primary activity will be to assist with the operation of the 240th Street fish fence. The fence operates 7 days a week between October and December, and is checked twice per day. Consequently, there are both morning and afternoon volunteer opportunities on weekdays as well as weekends during the fall season. Duties involve netting salmon from the fence trap and removal of debris from the fence panels as required. Note that inclement weather is likely, and there is some heavy lifting involved at times.

There are also opportunities to assist Kanaka Creek broodstock anglers with the transport of adult salmon from various locations in the lower Kanaka watershed to Bell-Irving Hatchery.

Training will be provided. For more information, call 604-462-8643 or E-Mail admin@keeps.org

Kanaka Creek Creel Survey

The Bell-Irving Hatchery and KEEPS are seeking interested volunteers with their own transportation to help monitor angler effort on Kanaka Creek at several locations between 112th Avenue and Riverfront, during November. Anglers will be interviewed at pre-determined locations during this period. Training will be provided.

Bell-Irving Hatchery support

The Bell-Irving Hatchery is a small salmon enhancement facility located on Kanaka Creek at 11450 256th Street in east Maple Ridge. The hatchery raises coho, chum and odd-year pink salmon. We are presently seeking volunteers with their own transportation to assist with the following activities:
