It's usually a couple of weeks if past years is any indication. This weekend should be good on the Vedder.

Does this mean we can fish for sockeye on the Vedder?

As far as I can see they are mentioning Fraser river, but on the other hand they say most areas in lower BC so I'm confused.

Anyone???

The price of gas is definately going to make it too expensive to drive out anywhere out past Chilliwack just for a couple of sockeye I'm sure.   ;)

"Anglers are requested to release any hatchery marked sockeye.  These fish are
hatchery raised sockeye and part of a recovery program designed to increase the
numbers of Cultus Lake sockeye."

So if you bonk a fish and then realized that the adipose fin is clipped, its not a problem right?

It is not a problem if you are worried about legality issues as this is a request, not a regulation. It is a problem for the Cultus Lake sockeye salmon population that Fisheries and Oceans Canada is attempting to protect for obvious reasons. That being said, fortunately the likelihood of encountering an adipose-clipped sockeye salmon from Cultus Lake during this time of the year is very small.

%#*()@&(_&!@%^!^&@%!%@&# kidding me?

DONT PEOPLE I.D. THEIR CATCHES ANYMORE? ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Kidding you?  Well IDing a fish to be a sockeye during sockeye season, bonking and then noticing the lack of adipose is what i was getting at.  the adipose isnt required to my knowledge to id a fish and besides the point it was a hypothetical situation.  thanks Rod for answering the question.

According to the CBC the FN were upset sport fishers were on the river.  Link

Time to invoke the notwithstanding clause and override the Sparrow and other racist decisions.

You would think by that article ( CBC) that sportfishers were catching food out of starving natives mouths. ;D
